Where did "he" say this. The attribution is what I am challenging. Please show me what you are seeing that is actually his words, and not someone else's words. That's the problem here.

There you go again. Gay people are not a monolithic block who all think the same. There were a number of prominent gay activists in the UK who went around outing famous people they knew were gay. Personally I find that pretty distasteful, but in your case I think you'd just be happier if you stopped torturing yourself with this inward-directed homophobia. You don't need to hate yourself anymore Ben, you can be yourself, it's ok.
