NYE is being rather dumb claiming that only "hipster" places have custom ground beef or cook their burgers any way you like. Heck, even Fudrucker's, a place that has been around 30-40 years, butchers everything in house, does custom grinds to order from whole pieces of beef (done where you can see it so you know they're not cheating you), and will happily give you a burger as rare as you like it because they know they're serving a high quality product which isn't infected with disease. It's only a very low quality CAFO beef place which will refuse to do so because they know they're serving low quality stuff which will give people food poisoning.

It's not just a California thing as you can get the same in any major US city. Holeman & Finch in Atlanta makes a ****ing amazing burger, using a custom grind of whole meat, which is organic, grass fed, free range, hormone free, etc... They got named best burger in North America and they really do deserve the award.

That would be one of the names on the list.
Have you gotten on their payroll yet? It's shameful they haven't recognized your outstanding efforts to increase their sales among their target audience.

But you never mention Whataburger, every single time, right?

          Whataburger isn't great, btw.

Whataburger sucks. I'd rather have McDonald's, Wendy's or even Burger King before I'd have Whataburger.

There have been endless discussions on how 5 Guys sucks and where exactly their product fails short. Just suffice it to say that a huge number of people all agree that 5 guys is garbage.

Complete with pictures about why 5 guys is so horrible.

I recently had gotten a call from my good friend Jae Bueno out in Los Angeles relating to a burger spot rumored to be opening in his area to RIVAL the IN-N-Out Burger chain. He had heard that this …

People hated it so much they created and joined an anti-five guys facebook group.

Each time I went there it was always $11-$12 for a burger, fries, and a drink while the fries were soggy and nasty while the burger was a dry as hell hockey puck drowning in a sea of mayo and ketchup. We're talking 10 times more mayo then a normal place so giant gobs of it slime every where and all you can taste are crappy fast food quality mayo & ketchup with a crunchy over cooked dry as Ben's mom's vagina burger. It's like these idiots think drowning their horrible dry burger patty in mayo will some how fool people.

I'm absolutely dumbfounded anyone would waste money on such a horrible restaurant.

His claim doesn't even have any merit. I did a search (using google since poly's search doesn't seem to like "In 'N Out") and the only hit which came up is a thread from a year ago where I mentioned how crappy five guys was and said I'd rather eat at a fastfood place like In 'N Out. That's one thread in about five or six years (everything older than that ends up in the archive) yet Ben claims that one total mention of such a comparison some how means I'm bringing it up all the time. That's right, exactly once, now equals all the time in the Benaverse.

2 stars vs. 1 star really just comes down to an extra depth of flavor and truly attentive service. I have found that Michelin outside of France is a bit uneven in their ratings. However, within France, they are pretty good. In Paris, Robuchon's restaurants are really good, but stay away from the "touristy" locations (like the Champs Elysee). For pastries, Pierre Herme can't be beat (but go to the main location south of the Seine).

Jesus Christ, you dumb ass, they aren't there because you imagined them and they never ****ing existed, you ****. I certainly don't give enough of a **** about anyone on poly, especially you, to bother go around editing old posts or deleting them (even if deleting old posts was even possible). Just own up to the fact that you were once again full of **** and we'll go on knowing all is right with the universe.

Given Ben's obsession with five guys and in 'n out I did a google search and found this recent blog post interesting.

                          Oct 7, 2012

Five Guys Burgers and Fries Sucks

                          Yea I said it.

I'm finally trying this Five Guys burgers place. Even though I'm getting burnt out on In-N-Out, I have my west coast loyalties to uphold. I honestly don't know what all the hype is about, but it's clear where the financial success comes from.

The burger was good. But good in the same way a burger at a family bbq pick-nick is good. I feel like I've had this burger 1000 times already. Everything seemed like you could go to Safeway and buy it and make it yourself for like 8 dollars cheaper. Right down to the normal Reynolds wrap foil wrapper. If this burger came off a truck and had something distinguishingly special I still wouldn't expect to pay $7 for it.

So the hype, here at least is that it's because not In N Out, although it looks like one with the familiar red and white 50s decor. But the food isn't special... At all.

The reason they're making bank is because of the generic cheap ingredients and unbranded foil wrappers, plain brown bags, costco napkins, etc that they charge an arm and a leg for. Can you say instant profit? It's actually a genius business model. Make people think that because it tastes "just like mom used to make" that it's chic and worth $10 for a burger. I wonder if you give em $1.00 extra they'll write your name on the bag.

I'll take In-N-Out over dads birthday party hamburger any day. Because it's something that you just can't duplicate.

                          Also, everything this dude said.

I have a question for Oerdin: considering that I eat Five Guys regularly, and that I really like it, why should I listen to what someone else has to say about it?

Hey, if it is the best you can get in your neighborhood then go for it. It's still objectively not a good example of the food catagory we call a hamburger, we can still measure things like juiciness (or rather 5 Guys complete lack there of), we can still compare how the bun holds up (or in 5 guys case doesn't), and a ton of other objective things before even getting to the subjective things like how bad 5 guys tastes. But, hey, if you live in a place where you just can't get better and if you don't mind getting way over charged for a sub-standard burger then I guess it's still the best you can do.

I mean that's sad and more than a little pathetic (but I guess some people really do enjoy McDonald's though in McD's defense their burgers are at least juicy unlike 5 Guys); just don't expect other people to agree with you.
