I thought there was a problem with people in the US consuming too much and going into debt and not having savings.
I thought that people (on average) in the US had a lot less vacation time/worked more/etc. (Note this completely disregards the fact that most US vacations are just staying at home or going a couple of hours away to go camping... or see the grandparents.)

I know for a fact that Americans receive better care than they do.a lot of things (including health care, which is what percentage of the US GDP?) are much more efficient there (And so they get more for their knr spent), and so on.
Yes, it's a problem in America, but it's a far worse problem in Europe. Most Europeans are much more overleveraged relative to what they actually make than in America. (the Swiss are an exception).I thought there was a problem with people in the US consuming too much and going into debt and not having savings.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Americans work harder than Europeans, that's why they take fewer vacations. Europe's wage controls do nothing except make people poorer. If people really wanted vacations that much in the US, they would take them. Most would prefer to be able to afford more household luxuries, which is why they don't have the time or money for three week jaunts through Thailand. In Europe, this choice is made for you by the government.Originally posted by Jon Miller View PostI thought there was a problem with people in the US consuming too much and going into debt and not having savings.

The problem with credit availability in the united states is entirely a function of the government forcing banks to take on bad loans for "disadvantaged people". The government is why we have too much credit. If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

Per capita (the statistics he actually cited) ≠ median.Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostNo, he's making his choice based on the actual median household consumption, and using the no air conditioning thing as illustrative of what the difference between these two numbers implies. Pay attention.

The difference in vacations is another problem with using statistics about the average level of consumption because it doesn't include the value of more time off.Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostAmericans work harder than Europeans, that's why they take fewer vacations. I haven't seen that data, but I would expect it to be true.Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostEverything there is 100% factual. Americans work longer hours and produce more per hour than European counterparts.
I have seen that europeans are more likely to take a long lunch and a coffee. And that is northern europeans, my understanding is that southern europeans take even longer lunches.
On the other hand, breaks are nice.

I would argue Luxembourg really shouldn't be on the list, since it's too small to be meaningful. Maybe even Norway. But that's a quibble.Originally posted by Jon Miller View PostIf there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?
