How does this happen? Chick-fil-A branded as anti-gay?

Oh no, half a cent from my purchase of a chicken sandwich may get donated to a quixotic effort to stop an already-largely-achieved attempt to legalize and normalize gay marriage. What shall I do? I know, I'll eat a chicken sandwich.

Then there's something wrong with modern America. A businessman should be able to refuse service to anyone for any reason.

I'm sorely tempted to do a little digging and see how many of the people up in arms in this thread were equally up in arms about the campaign to try and stop that mosque being built in NY a year or two back.
There's a bit of a difference between banning a mosque at Ground Zero, and banning all mosque construction in the state of New York. If you're arguing that the mayors of Chicago and Boston can ban Chick-fil-a, then they should also be able to ban any mosque construction.

Back in the seventies it wasn't uncommon to see shops in the UK with signs that read 'No Blacks, No Irish'. Is that really something you would find acceptable in modern America?

He's not trying to ban all chicken shops, just this one.

Oh and incidentally it wasn't at ground zero. That was what is commonly known as a right wing lie.

That's not the point. The point is would the mayor be OK with it. After all it is merely the logical extension of his rhetoric if he considers the opening of a new chicken place in Boston to be a gross insult to its residents due to the opinion expressed by its owners.

Chik-Fil-A (or however the **** you spell it) is an extreme oddity to me: it has what can best be described as a cult, following it around, worshiping it, claiming it is the greatest thing ever. I tried it once. I was massively underwhelmed. Overbattered, overseasoned, and dry. It was no different from any other fast food chicken sandwich.

It is like the Grateful Dead or Phish. Hysterically overrated by a devoted group of fanatics, and safely and wisely ignored by everyone else.

It is illegal for a private business serving the general public to discriminate against customers. Ben is wrong.

Freedom strikes both ways. In Europe, I'm free to marry my loved one. Not so in Free America.

Freedom also should say that a democratically elected representative should be able to keep bigots, pedophiles, rapists, scientologists, or devout Christians from doing business in their city. Freedom.

You're simply wrong on the last point, if for no other reason that the definition of bigotry could be manipulated by the powerful.

As mediocre their food is, and as backwards and reprehensible their stance on gay rights, Chik-Fil-A has every right to open a store in whatever city they want, allowing for individual local government regs re: zoning, health codes, etc.

I never got the hype. Add to that its usually more expensive than other chicken places. And their spicy chicken tastes like they took a regular sandwich and cooked it in their buffalo sauce rather than actually make it with different spices and the like. I'll take a Wendy's spicy chicken anytime.

Kind of like the McRib ridiculousness.

I am unfortunately a creature of happenstance. My 7 year old daughter loves chik-fil-a over all other forms of chicken nuggetry, thus Chik-fil-a it is.

Whatever you do under no circumstance eat a Chik-fil-a chicken wrap. It is ass in a tortilla shell.

OTOH had a peach milk shake last night. Very tasty.
