      That's right, I'm a homophobic bigot.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

        Sad.

        • Are sex changes really covered in Canada and hearing aids are not? I mean in ANY province, including British Columbia.
Yes, they are. Hearing Aids are only covered in Quebec. Newfoundland will cover it if you qualify for disability (which I don't). I work too much to qualify for disability. Ontario will cover some of it if you qualify for disability. Everyone else is a no.

Yes, those things are obviously under attack if the mayor of some city expresses his opinion that he doesn't like what a restaurant chain owner is doing.

Asher, could you explain this please? Canada is looking really ****ed up right about now. I mean hearing aids are like glasses. It's a relatively cheap and easy way to turn what could be a life-limiting disability into nothing. Surely Canada would provide that for her citizens before subsidized sex change operations, right?

Canada doesn't really give a **** about hearing impaired people. Simple as that.

What makes sex change operations so trivial in your opinion?

                    • Ha, you've got Marion "***** set me up" Barry on your side...the CFA near me did some pretty brisk business, but nothing near a forty-minute delay. The line reached to the door, the drive-through was backed up--but that's only maybe 50% busier than a typical lunch hour. They always get slammed. What they've lost in business to the gay-rights crowd (who probably weren't a huge market for them anyway), they've likely gained with interest from their conservative Christian base. And that base tends to buy an average of 2.3 kid's meals along with their sandwiches.

Go ahead and keep claiming that this restaurant nonsense has anything to do with freedom of speech and religion.

                        • To the limited extent that governments were making a (feeble, doomed) attempt to keep a legitimate business out over its owner's religious opinions and what he legally did with his legally earned money, yes, it was about freedom of speech/religion. Now that said threat has passed, it's mostly about two competing strains of slacktivism.

You must admit, it's feeble and doomed because we're willing to tap them on the shoulder about it.

I would chalk it up more to their manifest idiocy in trying to grandstand about it instead of quietly killing it in some committee. "Hey we're going to keep this business out because their founder has uncool opi--eh? Wuzzat?" The correct way to keep undesirables out of town is to mangle them in the iron wheels of bureaucracy before turning to wink at your supporters.
