  • Fortunately for democracy, the wink must come.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

You can pretend these people were lining up for freedom of speech if you want (I'm sure a few of them were) but for the most part they were just putting a "Whites Only" sign on a drinking fountain.

Yes, the bigot position will be the wrong side.

        • 1) I believe TMM thinks this is all about free speech.

          2) I don't believe for a second that's what motivated most of those people today.

          • Yes, to be clear I am not commenting on TMM's motives.

When history writes the story of this event it will be told as a rally of support for CFA's position on gay marriage, not as a rally for free speech.

            • Oh, it was probably one ingredient. Along with resentment, fear, and various other things pointed in various different directions. I mostly just wanted lunch, myself, and the CFA was convenient, but there was a certain amount of spite involved.

XPost; dude, do you seriously thing this silly squabble is going to make it into anything like a history book? The closest it will get is CFA's old ledgers: "Aug. 1 2012--best damned business day ever."

                • With that many customers? They were hustling like mad just for the chicken; any BJ that fast would've ripped off the skin.

                  • Then I'm afraid I'm just back to bafflement. Waiting that long for a chicken sandwich with a pickle on it... man, you must really love pickles.

It won't be up there with the Cuban missile crisis, but yes, historical social movements/progress is documented by just this sort of event.

                      • I waited maybe three minutes to get there and perhaps another forty-five seconds before the food arrived. Like I said, they were moving. And honestly, I think CFA's the best fast-food option available in this region. Beats the hell out of Burger King or Hardee's, certainly. It loses to Fuddrucker's and such, but that's a whole different ballgame.

One day of a whole ****ton of business won't offset a whole ****ton of people never eating there... assuming, of course, all the self-important PC folks protesting the place ever are there in the first place.

I'd happily eat there if I enjoyed the food, even if the owner came out and said "not only do I oppose gay marriage, I also fully endorse kicking puppies in the face and punching women who dare talk back me." See also: Domino's.

Not sure where this originated from, but I saw somewhere on the series of tubes that "CFA Appreciation Day was such a success, they're going to announce that they also hate the Irish."

It's more of a southern thing. You're too far north. It hasn't expanded that far yet.

Under ordinary circumstances people don't go to Chik-Fil-A to express solidarity with the owner. They go there for a goddamn chicken sandwich. Ideology is irrelevant here.
