BTW, what's the difference between hate speech in classes and the way some religious schools teach certain subjects?
A Toronto Islamic school under police investigation over its “anti-Semitic” curriculum has apologized to the Jewish community and promised to review its teaching materials following an outcry.
The East End Madrassah acknowledged in a press release that passages of its educational texts that referred to “crafty” and “treacherous Jews” and contrasted Islam with “the Jews and the Nazis” were a mistake.
At least their hate isn't/wasn't publicly funded."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow
"I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it." - Mark Twain

If Catholics should have a "right" to perpetrate certain things offensive to Canadian law under the umbrella of "religious freedom" why cannot other religions have the same rights? It's already an overlapping system, hence the benefit of merging them together into one public system. I went to a public school immediately next to a separate school. The duplication and waste of tax funds is obvious. You'd never shut down the secular school, even if they were spending more money, and doing poorer.

Ben sometimes says that pre-marital sex is just as sinful when performed by heterosexuals as when performed by homosexuals.
Then he threatens to use violence to defend the good name of one of his friends who has unrepentantly engaged in heterosexual pre-marital sex.
The very least you can do is name him. Yes, I stuck up for David Floyd, even though I disagree with him on many things. I consider him to be a friend, who has helped me out.
I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand, loinburger. I stick up for my friends. If you were to talk nonsense about Nikolai, I'd say the exact same thing.
Ben is a psychopath.

That is the problem. I believe that Canada has a culture and that Canadians have a right to expect those who choose to come to Canada to live in accordance with that culture.
Our argument is twofold. One, we have a disagreement on what constitutes Canadian culture. You believe that Canadian culture is secular only, and I disagree, vehemently. I believe that Canadian culture is English and Protestant, French and Catholic. Thistle, Shamrock, Rose, Entwined. That Canada is part of the Empire, and quite honorable stood up for the things of the Empire, the Crown, the Englishment, and the Common Law.
Two, we disagree on what the expectations should be for immigrants. The question, "why is it that Catholicism recieves state support" is exactly like asking the Greek - why does Orthodoxy receive state support?" Is it wrong for the state to supply state support for Orthodoxy in Greece (where the Greek left), and not ok for Canada to provide state support for Catholicism?
I do not believe that Sharia schools, or Sikh schools or Mandarin schools, serve the best interest of the preservation of Canadian culture - and encourages immigrants to adapt to the culture of Canada, and not the other way around. You see it as a fairness issue - that Canada should adapt to serve them, and not the other way around. Why do you think they would adapt to you, when they are doing everything to make you adapt to them. That is my concern. Religious freedom is a part of the English Common law, and stripping that away, isn't going to increase the respect for secularism. Quite the opposite. You'll see increased antagonism towards secularism - from the very folks that you believe are supposed to be supporting you.
If Catholics should have a "right" to perpetrate certain things offensive to Canadian law under the umbrella of "religious freedom" why cannot other religions have the same rights? (to be more or less offensive)
What are you going to say when someone comes up to your daughter and chastistes them for not being modest enough to wear a headcovering? Are you going to argue to them, that their right to not be offended trumps your individual freedoms? If the secular school is doing poorer, go ahead and shut down the secular school, and turn the Catholic school into a secular oneScouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

I see - so the only reason that you're not defending homosexuality is that you don't have any gay friends.Last edited by Ben Kenobi; June 4, 2012, 17:50.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Because parents should have a say in whether their children are being religiously indoctrinated.
The only way that a child ends up in the Catholic school is if the parents take them there. There are fewer Catholic schools as compared to the secular schools.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.
