          • Lollipops are phallic enough to be classified as pornography, along with men kissing, anniversary cards, and pictures of chocolate cake.

That doesn't make much sense. In one case you have humans doing human stuff and advancing the species because of their own talents. On the other you have God doing all the good stuff using humans as pawns. Those are radically NOT the same thing.

                    • If you think that is a significant difference then it's obvious that what you are REALLY offended by is the claim that there exists a being far superior to yourself, not that he's responsible for everything.

When I see a Michaelangelo or an Einstein then that to me is an incredible example of what a human can achieve. It's an inspiration and a tribute to potential human talent. Saying that it was actually just some God doing it, and the human is only a puppet on a string is about as offensive to the species as it gets.

As for not wanting anything more superior than myself to exist, I'd argue that's basically what you are doing. Rather than accept that some humans are capable of great things that dwarf your own achievements, you claim it was all gods work.

                        • I wish Molly would come back so we could have a nice discussion of Paradise Lost. Or else that Arrian would come back and say more Arrian stuff. Either one. Both together would be awesome.

I never said it was JUST God. I acknowledge true greatness, and I never said Michaelangelo wasn't a great painter.

Btw, Those great people you mentioned never claimed sole credit for their greatness, but gave God credit for being truly great.

Elok, MB is a moron. You know that.

                            • No, MB is a well-educated, occasionally over-pedantic but far from stupid individual. We disagreed pretty strongly back in the day (and I think he was on my ignore list for a short time), but that was at least partly because I was only a little less proud and confrontational than you are now on matters of religion. Even then, I valued his substantial knowledge of the humanities, though I wished he wouldn't cite it at random with the apparent goal of bullying the opposition into silence--perhaps I misread his intentions on that, too.
