They don't. They operate under the assumption that I know more than you do, at least about what you're currently speculating upon, and that you know very little about it.All of your posts operate under the assumption that you know everything.
You have shown this to be the case quite clearly. Well done for that.

If it is actually his words which are the word of God, wouldn't he not have made the differences clear (when he was quoting Christ/etc) as he did many times.
He did consider himself a man of God, which he was.
You are lifting him up on a pedestal which he doesn't deserve to be.

It's not very surprising that Kid is hurling insults at Molly Bloom and I, since a. we're atheists and b. we're dicks. It's more noteworthy that he's hurling insults at you, Elok, and Imran.Originally posted by Jon Miller View PostIt's like the kid calling another kid names and being surprised when the other kid reacts as a kid.

Think about the words of Paul here:
1st Corinthians 3:
"10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ."
1st Corinthians 7:
" 10 To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11 But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.
12 To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. "
Note the difference.
Paul was a man of God. Many of the things he said are correct, and his writings that are saved in the New Testament I believe are scripture. They can be used to 'test spirits' (which means to determine whether other preachers are good or ill) and so on.
But it wasn't God writing 'perfect' words through Pauls hand. Rather, it was a man of God (Paul) writing words that we (Christians) believe were inspired and thus serve as scripture. And a large part of the reason we believe that these words were inspired is because the people of the first ~200 years thought they were inspired.
Note that none of Elok, Imran, or myself have said that Paul was wrong (that would be for Loin or Molly). We have said that you misunderstand him, just like you misunderstand Imran, Elok, and myself (and we are alive today, and can try to correct you and help you understand us).
Now actually, Paul writes of Peter being wrong, and I think refers to himself being wrong as well. So in reality Paul could be wrong as well. But that hasn't been what we have been discussing with you here.
Since I do think that Paul's writings in the New Testament are scripture (supported by those in the 1st and 2nd century who were Christians), they can be used to test ideas and to learn about God.

It disturbs me when I encounter people like Kidicious. They're not healthy. I have no idea how to help them, or if this is even possible (for me, or for anybody), or if it is my place to do so. In Kidicious's case I've given up. He'll either talk to his minister about this, or he'll refuse to do so out of cowardice or pride; there's certainly nothing else I can do to influence his decision, and I don't know if there's anything anybody can do to influence his decision.Originally posted by Jon Miller View PostIt is, and he should change.
Maybe we just have different methods of encouraging that change?

You aren't going to change my way of thinking because of the WAY THAT YOU INTERPRET THE BIBLE.If you want to change my way of thinking you will have to give me an interpretation that makes sense. Honestly from here on out I trust you much less because I see THE WAY you interpret the Bible. This get's back to what I was saying much earlier. There's a difference between talking about people having different interpretations and talking about THE WAY to interpret the Bible.Originally posted by Jon Miller View PostIt is, and he should change.

Take this verse "God so loved the world that He gave His only Son," and someone rejects the clear meaning and "interprets it as saying God is evil. There is a real problem with that. The weird thing is, you were both fairly civil in this thread, at least by atheists-debating-theists standards. You only insulted Kid, not the Christian faith itself, and even Molly confined himself to "look, this historical behavior wasn't very Christian" stuff. Which was refreshing, BTW.Originally posted by loinburger View PostIt's not very surprising that Kid is hurling insults at Molly Bloom and I, since a. we're atheists and b. we're dicks. Anyway, he got offended by us before he was offended by you two--and you had to work for it! Odd.

I gave up years ago on debating the Christian faith itself because, really, why? My parents are Christian, and they gave up trying to convert me back to Christianity for the same reason that I gave up trying to convert Christians to atheism - the thing that's important is ethics, and if somebody's metaphysics is an aid to their ethics then why mess with the metaphysics (especially when the metaphysics usually can't be proven or disprove until you kick the bucket). My issue with Kidicious is that his metaphysics is interfering with his ethics, his metaphysics in this case being "Kidicious has a God hotline."Originally posted by Elok View PostThe weird thing is, you were both fairly civil in this thread, at least by atheists-debating-theists standards.
