  • And that's the hardest thing in the world to do, become a christian.

    • OK I researched N.T. Wright to see if he was saying what I thought he might be, that the Kingdom of Heaven is gradually coming to earth and it seems to me that that's what his opinion. That's what I disagree with. My opinion is that Jesus is still misunderstood by the world. The individual must only think about the Kingdom of Heaven within themselves, not within society.

Btw, the guy is considered a conservative. Maybe that means conservative for an Anglican.

      • He's a conservative because he believes in the biblical Jesus as opposed to other scholars who say the gospel is wrong about Jesus. Pretty interesting stuff.

Not gradually coming, but already here. And I agree that Jesus is still misunderstood by the world, but in the opposite way you do. Too many people are focused on personal piety rather than reclaiming this world for our King, Jesus Christ. If Jesus is King over all the Earth, then we must bring his Kingdom - after all "His Kingdom come, His will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven" - that's how Jesus taught us to pray.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

          • Not sure what you're getting at. I don't know of any christians who don't believe in making the world christian.

            • But how many believe that Jesus has already claimed the world and is already King over this world and that this world will not disappear, but Heaven and Earth will merge and become one at the end.

              • Sometimes I wonder if there isn't one christian in the US who doesn't believe that, but maybe some christians in India or somewhere where they aren't continually reminded of it.

                • There are plenty who don't. Or who say they do, but don't act like it in their lives.

For example, people who believe in the rapture and they'll live in Heaven with God forever don't really believe that Heaven and Earth will merge.

                  • I don't know if I believe they will merge actually. You are probably implying something that I don't believe. I doubt if your conservative theologan believes it either.

                    • Of course he does. He wrote a book on it. It's called "Surprised by Hope". It's also something which is stated in the Book of Revelation - you know the New Jerusalem coming down when Heaven and Earth merge and all that?

And let me get this straight, the last string of posts was:

                      You: Everyone believes that!
                      Me: No they don't (clarify)
You: I don't believe that and I bet that theologian doesn't either

                      • Do you have any idea how many metaphors are in the BoR? When are you going to tell me what you are implying?

                        • Also New Jerusalem isn't described in the BoR as an earthly city but a heavenly city, a city that doesn't require the sun or the moon. It's humanly impossible to create New Jerusalem, but this is after the apocalypse.

                          • This is why it comes from the realm of Heaven... but it comes TO Earth - ie, this place we are on right now.
