Why are you trying to *help* Oerdin make a good decision, HC?

Yeah, all employers offer medical, dental, 401k, etc...

If I understand correctly, the foreign earned income exclusion the IRS offers only covers the first $91500. So if Oerdin moved to Alberta his taxes might go up substantially.

Yeah, unless the salary increase is large enough to make up for paying both Canadian and US taxes it wouldn't be worth it. They need to bump that foreign earned income exclusion up substantially. At least double it.

It depends on your experience, but yes. My SO is a fresh out of school chem eng with almost no experience (and he's two years away from being a "Professional Engineer", which means he needs a PEng to actually sign off on everything he does...essentially "professional probation") and his salary is nearly six figures already.

My father was a civil engineer (just a Bachelor's also, never an MBA) and he made substantially more than that working in oil & gas in Calgary.

The tax burden of Alberta and California is virtually the same last I checked.

Alberta has no provincial sales tax (only province without it, IIRC). We just have the federal 5% sales tax (not a VAT).

Incidentally, it's not included in that number for either country. So this isn't an important distinction.

This is precisely why I had to renounce the citizenship. There's no ****ing way I'll pay a dime to the crooks in Washington.

94 cents American now. For most of the post war era, it's been substantially lower. It's only been in the last 8 years that it's substantially appreciated.

And the tax burden of California is vastly higher than Texas.

It is important, read gribbler's post that mine was a reply to.

From what I just saw by googling, Alberta is actually closer to Texas than California in tax burden.

Another thing not noted is from what I recall with my discussions with Sloww, Texas has obscenely high property rates compared to Alberta also.

It depends on location. For instance, Richardson (where I live) and Plano have taxes lower than Garland. Garland isn't nearly as nice. It's not as well-run, obviously.
