I have looked on monster.ca for geologist positions in AB, and while there are a lot of openings listed none of them list salary. The top marginal rate is 39% in Alberta, and in Texas the top marginal rate would just be the federal rate, 35%. But Texas seems to have a higher sales tax and in Alberta there is free healthcare.
edit: Wikipedia says the total sales tax is 5% in Alberta, which is less than what you would pay in Texas. State sales tax is 6.25% in Texas and local jurisdictions can add up to 2% to that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_t...d_States#TexasComment
