Doesn't change the fact that your comment "You can get a quality education spending very little, and you can spend a ton of money and get very little to show for it." was just dumb. Compared with what the schools spend? Very much less. Zero in admin, zero in maintenance. Some for supplies, but then in public schools, parents pay for supplies anyways. Most spend far less time teaching, because they are more efficient with the kid being right there.

Most homeschoolers spend on the order of several hundred a year rather then approximately 20k per kid. Huge difference. And the results are starkly in favour of the homeschoolers.

So yeah, quality education does not need to cost much at all, and bad educations cost a fortune. Go figure.

The neighbourhood I built in will feed into the same high school I went to, which is one of the top ones in Canada and the top one in Alberta. It's not unheard of for rich asian parents to buy or rent houses in the area just so they can register their kid to attend the school.

It's why I also picked a lot with a street address of 56 instead of 44. Resale value.

If you're arguing it's better in general, there's no honesty and picking out the most expensive state you can find and claiming that is the cost of public school per pupil. It's about as valid as finding the cheapest one and claiming it's representative. Oh, Utah was spending $4890 per pupil in 2001-2002? I guess it only costs ~$6000 per pupil in today's money to give a child a public education.

Also, if inflation occurs then the cost of homeschooling (including opportunity costs, of course) will also increase. I don't see how Obama controls the value of the dollar- unless you think he runs the Federal Reserve?

You still haven't made any attempt to quantify the time investment required to homeschool kids- you can't make any sensible cost comparison without that.

Look at it this way. If it costs 10k per kid, how many kids do you have to have before homeschooling actually benefits the state more than working? Even if you homeschooled as a full time job, 3 kids would benefit you 30k.

So, your point is that if someone can earn the average wage (~40k) and has twice the average number of kids, the savings to taxpayers from homeschooling full time equal the benefit that would come from getting a job instead? In other words, for most people public schooling requires less resources than homeschooling their kids.

By the way, quantitative easing is done by the Federal Reserve, which is run by Bernanke, a Bush appointee, not Obama. I'm not aware of a QE3.
