  • So all they needed to do was just ignore them and not go north of the wall and then they never would have gotten south of the wall. It is only when they got a zombie dragon that they could bring down the wall. Everyone should have said "well, we're not going up there and instead we will just ignore them" and everything would have been fine.

    • Incest makes the world go around (if Westeros is your world). There are way too many stories (especially if time travel is involved) where the effort to avoid/defeat a prophecy ends up bringing it about instead. Frankly, I can easily see everyone dying and Frosty taking over.

Harsh to blame it all on her. Jon Sner has to take some of the credit, surely. All to try and persuade Cersei who has refused to side with them anyway. Not a good outcome to the expedition, it has to be said.

        • Yeah, so like, I'm not really sure what the Night King's plan was if apparently it required an ice dragon?

          • Maybe he thought they had enough bodies to just stack up and walk over the Wall?

            • Or maybe the WWs, just like the people inWesteros, have their own myths and prophecies.

And maybe one WW prophecy was that, at the beginning of the next winter there will appear a lady with dragons.
And those dragons will be turned into a mighty weapon for invading the lands of mankind.

And because of this prophecy the WWs prepared (just like south of the wall certain people, like Melisandre, let their behavior guide by prophecies)
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death. I arrive on winds of blessed air. Air that you no longer deserve."
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "He has fallen in battle and I must take him to the Einherjar in Valhalla"

I am still hoping that in the books at least it is Bran which causes the Wall's magic to fail just like he caused the magic that protects at the tree cave to fail.

                  • As much as I like the show and think it's still really, really great there has been a bit too much of the "unbelievable" and/or "deus ex machina" type of stuff recently.

It seems Bran is now always there to present evidence nobody else has. Arya is now always there to kill off someone either as herself, or as someone else.

Jon is surviving sure-death situations due to superhuman strength
                    Spoiler:
                    (drowning)
or because of other deus ex machina moments
                    Spoiler:
                    (Benjen)

Also nice in the earlier episode::

                    Spoiler:
When the dragon was killed, he crashed into the frozen lake/whatever water, broke through the ice. Now before, when Jon and his guys had escaped to that little formation of rocks in the middle all the icezombies had to wait outside until the broken ice/water had frozen again - which was long enough for Dany and her hypersonic dragons to appear in time.

However, when the icezombies later pulled the dragon out, they had attached large iron chains to him, but the water was frozen again. I guess they cracked the surface to put the chains on him, then waited half the night for the water to freeze again for dramatic effect )

                    • If the show continues to follow the initial concept of the story -porno magic War of the Roses- it ends with the surviving Lannister with arguably the best claim to the throne marrying the surviving Stark with arguably the best claim and founding a new dynasty. Game-Of-Shakespeare makes out the Starks as the bad guys in a bunch of plays, and Dany gets nothing.

-And in a couple generations. BTW, an ice zombie relative of the Starkisters takes the throne...

                      • Point at me and laugh if ya want, but despite having read about reduced numbers of episodes a lot earlier I really wondered why there's no talk about ep. 08 of this season yet....

                          • Now since it's only ca. a year to go to the end I think it's the right time for some predictions about season 8:

                            1. Varys will die, probably in flames, as promised/threatened

                            - either because he does something Daenerys see as betrayal or:
                            - because some intrigue from outside (like from Cersei's underling, the Frankenmaester) makes him look like betraying Daenerys or:
                            - just because the Red Woman said so

                            2. The last episode will have lots of icezombie nudity
