Here's what happens.

One, the province releases land to the city and/or developer.

Two, developer builds all around the lake and sells the properties to folks just like you from Alberta looking for an 'investment property'.

The lake gets walled off. Residents who've lived there 20-30 years get nothing. How do you think they feel? Most will eventually move to some other quiet town where they can have low costs, before they get 'discovered' again.

Free market, yeah I see how that works. 95 percent of the land here owned by the provincial government. A true free market would release all the land, and let private investors buy it, irrespective of where they are from.
