And that's why the rights to them are auctioned. So why do you want the tax, again?

          As in this?

The Mazda 3 is actually a nice little car but it's biggest problem is it has a gutless motor. I imagine it makes a nice daily commuter though.

He does oil, I'm involved with trucking.

I took no offense and make no apologies for the industry I am in. Personally however about 90% of my time is related to natural gas projects. While not impact fee, they have lesser emissions and "spills" (for most) are impossible.

              Gutless motor? WTF?

              It's a 160hp engine and only 2600lbs.

It's also got a perfect power curve, unlike the Matrix/Vibe and Civic.

              Stupid Oerdin.

              What do you drive, Oerdin?

All countries around the world adopt this approach with non-renewables.
Governments charge royalties which is the "economic rent" for the use of a government owned resource. These are usual but I took your earlier post to be advocavting some additional tax for non-renewability?

So the truth finally comes out - you're not from Nebraska. You're actually an Appalachian hillbilly.

Yes, royalties are what I'm talking about, but I'm using the blanket term tax. (Australia is in the middle of a heated debate about a proposal to replace royalties with a "resource super profits tax".)

We don't auction them here (at least I've never heard of such a process here) and we would be mad to given that the life of a mine can be decades long. Unless the rights were auctioned in terms of a percentage cut. Is that the way they're auctioned in the US?
