  • We can be more sure it is more likely to be closer to the original (also, not all of it, each section should be treated separately).
    Ok. Fair point.

Now, how do we assess the fact that the Gospels, if they are more accurate than the other historical documents of the time, the claims that they make?

Again, I'm looking at the answer to two questions. 1, the Gospels claimed there existed a Jesus of Nazareth, and two that he died and returned from the dead.

If the Gospels are accurate, why should we reject these two claims?

I gave a definition that was every bit as accurate and useful as yours. How many times in the past year have you consulted with somebody about an ethical dilemma and as a result taken an action contrary to your intuition?

      • I bet you $10 that every single forum regular thinks you're an idiot.
        You're on.

I'll even up the ante to 100 USD. Deal?

I'll define forum regular as "any poster with greater than 25k posts here on Apolyton" just to make it more fair.

        • Don't take that bet, I know of at least one forum regular who is stupid enough to consider BK to be an intellectual giant by comparison. This is apolyton, after all - if it can have a creature like BK on it, then surely it has a creature who thinks that BK isn't an idiot.

More than on both hands. Have at it, "how would you define ethics?". I also answered your previous question and you said nothing further.

Because claim one doesn't prove claim 2. There could easily be a person called jesus walking around at that time, but that isn't a proof of that he returned from the dead.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Never said that 1 implied that 2 was true.

All I said is that the Gospel makes two claims, both of which must be true in order for Christ to be the Son of God.

                1, he must exist.
2, he must have risen from the dead. If both are true, than his divinity is also true.

The branch of philosophy concerned with determining the righteousness and wickedness of actions.

I also answered your previous question and you said nothing further.
Which one, the one about an illogical divine law that would be relevant to atheists? Your answer was atrocious (you need God to tell you how to worship God? My mind is blown!!!), so I didn't see any point in pursuing that line of questioning. I'm assuming you don't mean the part where I asked you to point out where Jesus talked about homosexuality, seeing as how you made no attempt to do so. You explaining why the Bible is correct while the Odyssey and every other piece of ancient literature is incorrect was also a fruitless line of questioning, as other posters are learning.

So prove that either is true.

Failing that, provide the method that we can prove your claims for ourselves.

So anybody in the Bible who rises from the dead must also be God?
