No, that's not the point of this thread.
So what's the point of this thread then?

If they are trying to get their kid into school, just release the damn form and be on your way, tyvm.

No, this situation actually has NOTHING to do with LA's gay adoption ban
Then why not just ask for the unaltered BC? Seems simple to me. Get the form, get it off to FLA, wow, your kid is in school.

What I said was that the parents in this case were just asking to be treated like any other out-of-state adoptive parents.
But the state is treating them the same way. It's offered to release the unaltered BC.

What these people want are special rights and recognition that is not going to be forthcoming.

You made the false claim that they were somehow seeking to overturn LA state law
Personally, if I were in their situation, I'd just ask for the unaltered BC, register my kid in school and be on my way. I wouldn't be raising a big stink and asking for special treatment, and then go to the media claiming discrimination when that treatment was denied.

I'm on the AG's side. It's unnecessary for the purposes of their request to alter the BC to favour what they believe is the reality. If I were one of the clerks, I'd simple send them the unaltered BC, and then go from there.

You should try taking Excedrin, Asher - it might help.

Lesbian parents of expelled kids defend their Catholic faith

A lesbian couple whose children were expelled from a Catholic school in Boulder, Colorado, expressed their dismay Monday, but held steadfast to their faith.

In a written statement, the women, who chose not to reveal their identities, described themselves as normal, hard-working people with a nice house and a dog - and as Catholics.

"When we were allowed to have our children baptized ... we made a promise
to raise our children in the Catholic faith," they said. "We now feel like our attempts at fulfilling this promise are being undermined by the Church itself.

"Perhaps our biggest objection to the school's decision is that we think that it is wrong to punish a child for who the child's parents are. We do not think that this reflects what Jesus would have done."

The Archdiocese of Denver, Colorado, recently defended its decision not to re-enroll the couple's two children in the Sacred Heart of Jesus School next year because their parents are lesbians.

"The Church does not claim that people with a homosexual orientation are 'bad,' or that their children are less loved by God," Archbishop Charles J. Chaput wrote in an article published in the Denver Catholic Register.

"Quite the opposite. But what the Church does teach is that sexual intimacy by anyone outside marriage is wrong; that marriage is a sacramental covenant; and that marriage can only occur between a man and a woman. These beliefs are central to a Catholic understanding of human nature, family and happiness, and the organization of society. The Church cannot change these teachings because, in the faith of Catholics, they are the teachings of Jesus Christ."

Yep... deny the faith to the children because their parents are sinners.
Maybe they should start taking names from people who come out of confession and throw their children out of school as well...

Why is anyone in that school? Even if it was limited to just sexual sin, wouldn't there be just a few students there?

The church considers them sinners damned to hell unless they repent and kicks the innocent children from school. Man that's consistent with that message. Hypocrites to the grave.

Yeah - why are gays being singled out in terms of sins and thus targets of being reprimanded in some way, but sinners among straights are not being reprimanded, expelled, and so on?

It's obvious. Sinners go to church and confess and swear to never do it again despite the fact that they intend to do it again. And the church goes along with it.
But gay men aren't willing to lie and say they will never do it again. Who's the bigger hypocrite?

Rah, the hypocrisy is so bad that it really STINKS - I can smell the stench from here at work.

By the way, what is the context or origin of what you have in your sig line? I'm guessing it has something to do with Ben.

No, that's not the same treatment other adoptive parents get. Did you just forget the conversation we were having a couple posts up?

Louisiana, along with all other U.S. states, reissues BCs with the names of adoptive parents. They are treating *this* couple differently because they are refusing to do the same for them. There is NO SPECIAL RIGHT being asked for, it's the same damn right every other adoptive parent gets.

Personally, if I were in their situation, I'd just ask for the unaltered BC, register my kid in school and be on my way.
As I said, I would also make sure the kid was in school first before pursuing the legal actions. In fact, pretty much no one here as said otherwise.

It's unnecessary for the purposes of their request to alter the BC to favour what they believe is the reality. If I were one of the clerks, I'd simple send them the unaltered BC, and then go from there.
So I take it you oppose reissuing birth certificates with the names of adoptive parents entirely, right? After all, that way there would be no "special treatment." Once again, in this case the adoptive parents are just asking to be treated like all other adoptive parents, but it is actually the state that is singling them out for "special treatment."

The reality is that these men are both legally this kid's parents through adoption, and based on all sorts of precedent, there's no sound reason that a state should not reissue a BC with their names. Unless you can provide a legal argument as to why the state shouldn't reissue the certificate as requested, then your objection is unimpressive, as it's just a symptom of your bigoted beliefs, nothing more.
