I guess you hated the title of the show, "Queer as Folk" then?
    Yes.

I hate the word, not for PCness reasons. It's just a stupid, stupid word.

It's not generational. Pretty sure I'm younger than you. It's just a bad word, and yes, it's offensive. Do you know what the word means?

It's a word usually adopted by the rebellious gays. "**** the world, I'm so unique! I'm queer! yay!!". It's immature, is all.

Asher, you're right, it may not be generational in all cases, since as you point out, you're younger than me but still have a different perspective on the word.

I'm not defending the word in the context in which it's being discussed, but when you consider that queer means not the norm, at the time of conception of application to gays, it kind of fit. It's still not really "the norm", but the orientation is a lot more evident.

the state can't issue a certificate reflecting adoption that would be illegal in the state).
Thank you. And yes, Mr. Fun, I read the article. I don't understand why they simply can't order the birth certificate as is and be done with all this hassle.

I think it is important for us to establish that a person is not disqualified from the label 'victim' just because an agenda exists somewhere. Just as a basic exercise in logic and ethics...
You are right I should have clarified, which I did later on.

I stand by my statement that the state of LA isn't victimizing anyone here, and that this is a targetted attempt by gay rights activists to overturn a law that they find obnoxious. Instead of simply ordering a birth certificate, they'd rather waste an enormous amount of time and money for the people of LA.

That crap doesn't fly. Admit, Ben, that it was a retarded statement. It was a classic Hitleresque blaming of the victims. At one point, you claimed that the states were the targets (and thus victims), making the people in the OP some kind of terrorists.
They certainly aren't victims by any stretch of the measure. They have chosen to exact punishment on a state for daring to 'reject' them, when the state is not doing anything of the sort. They've chosen an enormously convoluted means which is all going to blow up in their face rather then doing what 98 percent of the population would do.

Frankly, I'm disappointed that Mr. Fun, Asher, Boris and yourself are defending idiocy simply because it's conducted by gay people. I had hopes that the lot of you would be in that 98 percent of sensible folks.

Please show where either Asher or I claimed to support the actions of these parents. I for one think they should do whatever they have to do to get the kid enrolled in school right away and then they should continue the legal actions they want to pursue.

Even so, your claim that the gay parents are "trying to overturn a law" is once again the opposite of the truth. They have already had the courts rule in their favor twice that current Louisiana law already allows for the issuance of the certificate with their names on it, they are just contending with the state AG who is appealing those decisions. If anyone is trying to "overturn the law," it's the AG.

By the way, it is customary U.S. procedure that adopted children have their birth certificates re-issued with the names of the adoptive parents. In that sense, these parents are not asking for any special treatment by the law.

It's not customary in LA, which is really the point here. LA doesn't do things this way, and they should simple get the BC shipped over to FLA and deal with it from there. The kid needs to go to school. They aren't targetting these folks at all, which makes the whole thread rather senseless.

I'm going to need you to prove that statement. Can you cite actual LA law which says that they don't reissue birth certificates in the names of adoptive parents? Because as it stands, two courts have ruled in such a way would indicate that assertion is incorrect. It is SOP in the U.S. to do this, I'm not aware of any state that doesn't do it. Logically, it's not hard to see why...

Please. Ben cite the actual law? Like that's ever going to happen.

They don't do gay adoptions, so. Isn't that like the whole point of this thread?

No, this situation actually has NOTHING to do with LA's gay adoption ban (it is the AG who is trying to claim that is an issue, but the courts are not buying it). If the state were to reissue the certificate, it would not render gay adoption suddenly legal in LA. They aren't seeking to overturn the adoption ban and it is not even a possibility with these rulings.

What I said was that the parents in this case were just asking to be treated like any other out-of-state adoptive parents, not overturn any law. You made the false claim that they were somehow seeking to overturn LA state law, but currently said law does provide for birth certificates to be reissued with the names of adoptive parents and makes no distinction wrt same-sex parents (hence two unfavorable court rulings for the AG).
