The explanation was implicit in his answer. Either a) they were all dead the whole time, in which case the island was part of the created world and part of his explanation (deus ex) or b) the island actually existed, and was never explained in any way which makes Christian's explanation of the sideways universe a big distraction technique to make it look like they answered questions they avoided. In that case it stills serves to be as close to an answer as we were going to get even though it absolutely isn't one.

    • Dude, the island itself was already explained. The Force lives under it.

You are retarded. Christian's whole purpose in the finale was to help Jack figure out he's dead and explain what the Sideways World was. That's it. He had absolutely nothing to do with the Island World or the answers for questions involving it.

            • Under scenario b) that's why he was there But even then that narrative payoff was there to replace the answers people were actually looking for to the on inland mysteries. It's crappy storytelling either way.

I didn't think of that, probably because the scene in Khan was way better. Also, Desmond is immune to electromagnetic radiation while Spock just had to take that ****.

Can't be. Claire's baby wasn't born at the time of the crash, but is present in the church at the end.

                      • Man did that suck.
1/3 interesting action to end the series, 2/3 meaningless crap for jack to move to the afterlife. Now knowing what the sideways universe was, it reflected the whole final season with about the same ratio. Somehow reunion shows are more fun when the people are alive.
WHAT A WASTE OF TIME. The whole final season could have been done in about 3 hours.

                        • From a numbers standpoint, it was interesting that exactly six people got off the island in the end.

I agree with Drake insofar that I really enjoyed the finale, but I disagree that it meant the Sideways stuff was a waste of time. It was where everyone finally had to work out their flaws; it was Purgatory. It was a pleasant, lovely Purgatory for most of them, but they had to let go of it to fully heal themselves. I thought it made the Sideways stuff better. Collective unconscious, and all that.

                            Also--Richard lives , Lapidus lives , Jack's death scene

Mother****ing Kate being the one to kill nameless? Plus, only Lapidus can pull off quips like the one she attempted.

                            • I really liked Tyler Cowen take on the final scene (http://www.marginalrevolution.com/ma...sode.html#more). But go to agree with Drake that sideways seemed useless.

                              • Lapidus was the best character in the entire series. ****ing awesome, whoever casted him deserves one hell of a bonus.

Jacks death scene was nigh on perfect.
