Made a bit of a typo above; LA Jack has blood on the left side of his throat; of course, in his reflection, it is the opposite, hence Island Jack is gonna get a shiv in his right jugular.


Also, I shouldn't totally discount the possibility that it is Kate who does the deed. It would make a nice bit of symmetry with the pilot episode, where Kate stitches Jack up after the crash.

Just finished re-watching "Stranger in a Strange Land". I think it's hilarious that, after people have bagged on this episode for almost four seasons, it turns out to be the episode that first revealed Jack's destiny as Jacob's replacement. Nice work, Darlton.

Also, Juliet is totally fine.

1. How did it reveal Jack's destiny? His little quip about his tattoo to the "sheriff" we never saw again?

2. It's been bagged on for gloriously good reasons, the first three of which are Bai Ling, Bai Ling, and Bai Ling.

His tattoo revealed the number of Castaways who would still be alive going into the finale (5) and Jack's role amongst them. According to Achara, Jack's "a leader, a great man" but this makes him "lonely, frightened, and angry". Isabel, however, reads the tattoo as saying "He walks amongst us, but he is not one of us." Could there be any clearer description of Jack's relationship to the rest of the Castaways now that he's been awakened as the new Island protector?
