Plus, Alternative Ben waking up by being, naturally, beaten the **** up.

    Great episode.

    • Ben finally killed Charles, finally avenged Alex's death.

Yeah, but it was so perfunctory that you barely even noticed it.

Jacob finally passed on his legacy. Alternative Locke and Jack are finally realizing their destiny.

True, but we all already figured that Jack was the new Jacob. If another character had earned the job, it might have been more exciting.

I'd watch an Alternative Desmond and Hugo save souls spin-off show.

Desmond and Hurley in a remake of Quantum Leap? They could even have an episode where Hurley finally gets the chance to improve The Empire Strikes Back.

      • Agreed about Jacob/Jack, but it was still a big moment.

You hardly noticed Ben killing Charles? Man, we've been building up to that for a few years. Especially that line after he did it: "He doesn't get to save his daughter." Cold as ****, man.

Yes. It affected me emotionally about as much as Richard's death.

              • Respectfully disagree.

Can't believe you weren't affected by Ben's revenge...

                • Dude, two other unnecessary characters had just been summarily axed. Widmore's death was just another loose end being abruptly wrapped up.

                  • Zoe and Richard, I'll grant you.

But Ben vs. Charles has been a major plot thread since season four; that was big, especially as it appeared, prior to that moment, that the two of them appeared to be heading for a detente.

                      • A-

In fact, the episode was in such an all-fired hurry that it dispatched three characters quickly—Zoe and Widmore and Richard (maybe)—with no build-up and no follow-up.

                        • So is it all so intricately written that everything makes sense, or are the writers just using the proverbial manatees to pick out plotlines?
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

                          • While Charles death was a bit abrupt, Ben's comment saved it for me.
Zoe was so insignificant that her quick death was appropriate and just confirmed for me how useless she was to the plot.
Richard's death was one that disappointed me. I would have liked more but it just reinforced "we are just so done with him".

I was still hoping that Sawyer would step up and say NO JACK, this one is mine.

And Yes, Hurley appearing in the bizarro universe scene SAVED it for me also.

It was funny, I was watching it delayed, and between recording you get a glimpse of what's live while you choose the next show. (you try to do it quick so you don't see any spoilers) and while I was switching I saw Juliet and thought, great it's about time only to latter realize that I had seen a glimpse of V.

                              • Something I noticed last night, but forgot to mention:

LA Jack once again notices a spot of blood on the right side of his throat; much bigger this time, as compared to when he was on Oceanic 815.

I think, Sunday night, the right side of Island Jack's throat is going to get ripped open; either by Ben, (a long shot) Desmond, or (a longer shot) James. Perhaps Hurley will get the protector job after all.
