  • I don't know if it has even been spelled out or not (I think it may have been), but Locke was killed once he spilled the beans on Eloise. Ben wanted to go back; he thought Locke could take him back, but when Locke said Hawking could get him back, he had no further use for John.

Having no further use for Locke doesn't really explain why Ben choked the life out of him. The other time Ben tried to kill Locke, it made sense because he felt his leadership of the Others was threatened after Locke heard Jacob (or whoever the hell it turns out to have actually been). Maybe Ben had a similar reason to not want Locke around anymore once he found out about Mrs. Hawking and realized he didn't need Locke to get back to the Island, but what reason he might have had wasn't made clear. Say what you will about Ben, but he's not the type of guy that kills people for no reason...

    • It won't be blown up without consequence; somehow, someway, their experiences in the alternative universe will bleed into their consciousness in the island universe: "Let's get some coffee. We can go Dutch."
But why would it matter? If the AU gets destroyed and then it bleeds into the main time line, then the losties would just have seen what their lives could have been.

There has to be a way for the losties to "choose" their AU selfs. If that makes sense.

I still think the bleeding through has already begun. Jughead's explosion will allow the Losties at the site of the blast to slowly become conscious of their alternate selves, just as the Swan implosion allowed Desmond to become conscious of the web of fate surrounding him and the other castaways. Juliet was at the center of the Jughead explosion, so she felt the greatest effect. Sawyer should be next.

Actually, that makes a lot of sense. You may be on to something.

Those who follow Smokey (which James may be doing sincerely, or he may be running a con) are basically choosing their other reality. Those who follow the candidates/new Jacob/maybe Desmond?/whoever, choose their Island reality. And those who are dead in one or the other (or both) realities are just boned.

I'd also like to postulate that whichever side you choose, once you choose, you will no longer have any memory or experience of the other reality. You will have, effectively, murdered your other self.

Huh? This was better than "What Kate Does", but not by that much.

Definitely nowhere near as good as last week, but much better than "What Kate Does". Anything with Hurley taking a leadership role is good. The Jack alternative reality story was boring as ****, but the island reality was good.

However, I do have one big problem with the island story. I appreciate what they're trying to do with Claire, I think it's a great story. I just don't feel that de Ravin has the acting chops to pull it off. I didn't get a creepy vibe from her, at all.

Locke fanboys don't see the brilliance of Jack .

Random question, but does anyone think the producers have an actual map of the Island that helps them figure out plausible travel times between locations? I've always been skeptical that they do and my skepticism was increased in "What Kate Does" when Sawyer and Kate seemingly walked from the Temple to the Barracks in a couple of hours.
After this episode I think the answer is a definite no.
