  • Of all the women on Lost, most (certainly not all) are at least in Kate's league in attractiveness, and nearly every single one of them is way, way more interesting as a character. Why do we have to get stuck with her dumbass, when Ana Lucia, Libby, Alex, Charlotte, etc., are pushing up daisies, while Sun just tags along with Richard and Bizarro Locke?

Well, of the main female characters who have been there since the pilot, Kate is easily the second-least worthless, after Sun. You should be comparing Kate to Shannon and Claire and not later arrivals/minor characters like Ana Lucia, Libby, Alex and Charlotte.

Considering Vincent is played by a girl dog

    • Ah, I see you are beginning to buy into my theory since season one that Vincent is behind the whole thing. You can tell that he's evil because he has shifty eyes.

      • Hasn't anyone pointed out that Alterna-Claire named the baby Aaron, without meeting Charlie? That is one pretty solid case for bleed through.

But they offered better, more interesting female characters (Juliet! Danielle!), and ****ing killed them. What the ****?

I think I heard it on a DVD commentary.

I won't defend killing off Juliet (it still hurts... ), but I'm not sure they would have done so if Elizabeth Mitchell hadn't gotten the lead in V. I hope they wouldn't have, as Juliet was clearly the best female on the show.

As for Rousseau, I totally understand killing her off. She was interesting, but once she reunited with her daughter and completed her story arc, she was unnecessary.

            • Mira Furlan asked to written out of the show. So I'm guessing that is why Rousseau got killed.

              • I think Mitchell got the part in V after learning of Juliet's fate.

                • The timing doesn't really work out for that theory. Mitchell would've had to have signed up for V long before the fifth season of Lost was fully written due to the long lead times involved in creating pilots for TV shows.

                  • Agreed. Getting the lead role in V led to her demise on Lost.

                    • Random question, but does anyone think the producers have an actual map of the Island that helps them figure out plausible travel times between locations? I've always been skeptical that they do and my skepticism was increased in "What Kate Does" when Sawyer and Kate seemingly walked from the Temple to the Barracks in a couple of hours. Didn't the trip from the Barracks to the Temple seem like a serious trip back when Ben sent Alex and Rousseau there in Season 4? Ben even gave Alex a map.

A similar moment occurred in the season premiere, when Jin and Jack apparently carried Sayid on a stretcher all the way from the Swan site to the Temple. If the Temple is within easy walking distance of the Swan, how did the castaways never run across it in the first few seasons of Lost? And if the Temple is a short distance from both the Barracks and the Swan, how did they never find a village with a sonic fence around its perimeter?

I've been looking at fan maps at Lospedia and, while some of them seem plausible, there's a pretty wide disparity between the locations of even the most major places. Seems no one really knows the geography of the Island very well (despite maps appearing in several episodes).

It's not a huge deal, but I've been a little annoyed as the scale of the Island seems to have shrunk in recent seasons. It used to take serious effort to get from the beach camp to some of the more far-flung locations, but now it seems likes anywhere on the Island can be reached in a day's hike, at most.

                          • The island has been shrinking, along with the time jumps and what not.

                            • Random question: did Ben and his Others know of the other Others in the temple?

Richard seemingly knew both sets as he cured Ben when he got shot (presumably via the temple waters), but not sure more widely as the new ones seem to have been crowbarred in somewhat.

                              But enjoying nonetheless.

                              • Definitely yes.

Remember in the third season, after the Others abandon the Barracks, he tells Richard to lead them to the Temple?

Same thing in the fourth season, when he gives a map to the Temple to Alex and Karl and Danielle.
