The meaning of that passage is one of the more controversial found in the Bible.

Some meaning was lost in translation because Jesus talked about two kinds of peace; peace of mind, and civil peace. In this passage he's saying that he doesn't bring civil peace. I would agree with that point of view. As I've cited before, that was the thing that Judas couldn't understand. Why was Jesus not involved in the politics of the time more?
