  • There will be no human domination. Sorry Ben.
Know ye not that we shall judge angels? How much more things that pertain to this life?
    Again, 1 Corinthians 6.

I am pleading with you. READ CORINTHIANS!

Pat Robertson Blames Haitian Devil Pact For Earthquake
      4:05 pm

      January 13, 2010
      By Frank James

The scientific experts will tell you that Tuesday's magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Haiti was caused by tectonic forces along a seismic fault line that runs through the island of Hispaniola which Haiti shares with the Dominican Republic.

But Pat Robertson, the Christian televangelist, has a different explanation guaranteed to scandalize untold numbers. On the "700 Club" he said Haitians made a pact with the devil to be freed from their French colonizers in the 18th Century.

So, as far as Robertson is concerned, the fault is not in the ground; it's in the Haitians.

PAT ROBERTSON: And, you know, Kristi, something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, "We will serve you if you will get us free from the French." True story. And so, the devil said, "OK, it's a deal."

And they kicked the French out. You know, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other. Desperately poor. That island of Hispaniola is one island. It's cut down the middle. On the one side is Haiti; on the other side is the Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, et cetera. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have and we need to pray for them a great turning to God. And out of this tragedy, I'm optimistic something good may come. But right now, we're helping the suffering people, and the suffering is unimaginable.

      KRISTI WATTS (co-host): Absolutely, Pat.
As we're reminded by NPR's Barbara Bradley Hagerty who covers religion:

Robertson has a history of blaming disasters on victims. He said Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon suffered a stroke because he ceded land to the Palestinians. And he said Americans brought the 9/11 attacks on themselves for their banning school prayer and allowing abortion.
Since 80% of Haiti is Catholic, I suppose Roberston is equating Catholicism to devil worship. Which wouldn't be a shock, either.

It's all over, just Google it. I took that from the NPR website.

Googling "Pat Robertson Blames Haitian Devil Pact For Earthquake" gives some 3.3 mill hits

                Edit: too slow
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

You and Ben are the one's speaking with forked tongues! That passage is very clear, and should be too anyone. Furthermore, I said, Christ doesn't want us to be fools, and look what you and Ben have done with that! If you are going to speak the word of God and claim to be more knowledgable than other people God holds you at a higher standard. Woe unto you!

Robertson is one of the worst of those Christians who preach that those who recieve good fortune on earth, either wealth or some other form of good fortune, are favored by God. So they claim that people poorer than them and the victims of natural disasters and the like are cursed by God. The fact, is that we are all cursed by God, in the sense that we are all at risk of things like being hit by earthquakes. For example, it doesn't matter how goodly Californians are, they will still be hit by earthquakes.

matthew 11:20-24 (Woe on Unrepentant Cities)

20Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21"Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. 23And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths.[a] If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. 24But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you."

But Jesus holds some to a higher standard than others. The Catholics should have known better than to commit their sins. The blacks also should have known better than to commit their sins, but God will consider the fact that they are the victims of colonialism, lies and atrocities.

It's also clear in this passage that when Jesus is talking about punishment for cities he means individuals in those cities. Everyone faces judgement day. Just because you suffered horrible misfortune on earth doesn't mean that you will get the same in heaven. God favors no persons.

                            Not even "the chosen people?"

While we can all agree what Robertson said is detestable, the Old Testament does have many examples of God raining natural disasters down on people to show his displeasure. Since [most] Christians don't reject the OT, it's not as if what Robertson said could really be considered an "un-Christian" idea.

God's chosen people are not a nation as they were in the OT. They are individuals of every nation.

The stiff-necked and stubborn enemies of the gospel are unworthy to have it preached unto them. b. A pearl is known among the Greeks for its oriental brightness: and a pearl was in ancient times greatly valued by the Latins: for a pearl that Cleopatra owned was valued at two hundred and fifty thousand crowns: and the word is now borrowed from that, to signify the most precious heavenly doctrine.

It seems as though the interpretation of this passage is the result of Jewish lobbying of the church and an effort by churches to make Christianity not to seem anti-Judaismist (not to be confused with anit-Semetic). There has been a deliberate effort by both the Catholic and Protestant churches to keep Christians from interpreting the NT as anti-Judaismist.
