This is really ****ing pissing me off.

So: In ONTARIO, the rule was ONLY HIGH-RISK PEOPLE (which did not include professional athletes) were allowed to get vaccinations. It turns out both the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS and the TORONTO RAPTORS got vaccinated as well.

Meanwhile, when the Flames in ALBERTA got vaccinated, it was a vaccine open to EVERYONE, not just the high risk people.

Yet the ****ing media keeps talking about the Flames constantly, WTF? And even worse, they've even started misreporting what was going on:

Earlier this week, it was discovered the Calgary Flames had been vaccinated while only those in the high-risk category were allowed to receive their shots.

Seriously though, none of the provinces did this remotely well. Part of it was they got sideswiped when the vaccine supply did not come through as they had been told but the rest of this sh**show is on the provincial governments

Swine flu is a joke anyway. I hope I get it just so I can prove how stupid everyone is to worry about it.

That article pretty much sums up my opinion of the swine flu bull****.

Well, unless you have AIDs or live in a Third World country...you know, people who are at risk for ordinary flu, too.

It's definitely being way, way, way overhyped by the media but you're being just as stupid.

The risk factors are definitely different between H1N1 and regular flu. Young, otherwise-health teenagers and 20-somethings are far more likely to die from H1N1 than they are from the seasonal flus.

That's not to say the vast majority of people who get it are fine after a couple days.

But saying **** like you hope you get it -- well, that's just pretty ****ing stupid. I hope you get it, too.

The point is, I'm not worried about it. I hate it when the media overhypes **** like this just to get ratings/sell newspapers. It causes the equally idiotic public - especially easily excitable mothers - to panic for no good reason.

              Additionally,

The risk factors are definitely different between H1N1 and regular flu. Young, otherwise-health teenagers and 20-somethings are far more likely to due from H1N1 than they are from the seasonal flus.

Estimates of the proportion of people who will die if infected with H1N1 flu rely on uncertain figures – but planned studies should remedy the situation

Those two articles indicate that earlier risk assessments may be significantly flawed.

I'm still trying to figure out why this got the hype it did.

Apparently the WHO changed their definition of "pandemic" (less restrictive definition now) which is what got this whole thing rolling. Maybe we should blame them?

Maybe, but I still blame stupid people for falling for media hype.

If the media was actually an unbiased news source, they should be reporting along the lines of "this is a pandemic, BUT..." to cover the changed definitions.

Floyd speaks for me. HINI is way overrated.

Now, whatevers going on in Ukraine? That's not overrated.

While I agree that the hype and panic is overblown, this virus has managed to kill a number of apparently healthy people as well. My wife is an ICU nurse and has been caring for people in their 30s and 40s with no pre-exisiting conditions who are now unable to breathe on their own . While most people will just get "the flu'- its not something to be light of-- Hell it killed a 13 year old in Ontario who seems to have become the poster child for the panic

I agree that people have died from Swine Flu. However, the overall mortality rate does not seem any different than seasonal flu. Yes, the virus is different, I'm not denying that. It may attack a different segment of the population. Congratulations. My point is, the overall numbers really aren't measurably higher, and in any case, the media is overblowing this to the point of insanity. Swine flu can suck my dick, because I'm not worried about it.

The mortality numbers are a lot higher for certain segments of the population.

                                Including your demographic.
