  • Hmm, you have to be in a church before god will know you. Sounds really silly to me, but then, I shouldn't be surprised.

    • No.

God doesn't tell us to go to church in the scriptures, although we (Christians) are encouraged to meet together. If you just take your kids to the park, they won't learn about Christ.

It is true that you can worship God in the park or the like. Which is another of the major things that church is suppose to do.

The three major reasons to go to church is to worship God, support (and be supported by) other Christian beleivers, and to study scripture. All of these can be done outside of church. To be honest, sometimes church serves to distract people from God rather than bring them to Him.

There are a fair number of Christian anarchists/etc who desire (or mostly have) gotten rid of church or organized religion altogether. A famous example being Tolstoy. Note that they (generally) don't get rid of church or organized religion and replace it with nothing. They had other meditation/study/etc time.

I agree that going to church isn't really needed if you have something like family worship or the like.

Personally, I returned to church a few years ago (I had about 1 year off, and several years with seldom attendance). Some of this is because I would like the Christian socialization (although I am not getting as much of that as I would like at my church). Another part of it is that I am prone to forgetting about God and getting distracted and focused on things like video games and physics. Church can pull me back. Also, I am not always so good at studying or worshipping on my own.

I also decided that organized religion can do a much better job than individual people of helping the poor or healnig the sick (or the like). I can give money, when I don't have time to do things myself, and people will go and do such things.

      • You misunderstood my comment. I do agree with most of what you stated. My point was that Ben just assumed because he spent his Sunday morning with his kids that he never gave any time to God. And that maybe church is the only recognized place to worship. Both not necessarily true for me.

All I said is that it's not an either/or decision. It's not church OR kids, at least in my parish. Lots of families with their little ones.

            • Is it okay if you feed your kids the wafers while at the park? Two birds with one stone?

              • I'm just not sure why they don't mass manufacture Christ in these wafers.

The Jews and the Muslims can mass-bless food at the plants, but is injecting Christ into these wafers so labour-intense that it cannot be done at the source?

We could optimize the production of Christ by cutting out the middlemen here.

That's transubstantiation, in that the priests are the only ones who can do it. And yes, that's how it works they are just wafers until they are consecrated by the priest.

So station the Priests at the Christ Factory.

Just like Rabbis for Kosher and Terrirsts for Halal.

                      Exactly.

Might I suggest they stamp bible verses on the wafers as well? It looks like good advertising space going to waste.

Please describe how different it is. How hard can it be to slap some Christ onto a wafer?

If you have Kosher pickles, they still remain pickles.

WRT to transubstantiation, the wafer is no longer bread but becomes the body of Christ. That's why it is called 'transubstantiation'. trans - change substantiation (of substance) transubstantiation means the change of the substance, from bread into the body of Christ.
