  • If you think gays aren't worthy, you're not either.
Of my money going towards their marriage? I wouldn't want anyone to pay for my marriage except me. So I guess you could say I believe it would be wrong to accept money taken from other people to fund my life choices.

    • Thanks Tuber.

We don't see eye to eye on alot of stuff but you are a good man.

Yep, pretty much all of this is exactly what I believe for better or for worse. When I became a Catholic I made a promise to defend church teachings on everything and that includes this one. I'm not out here to troll, I didn't start this thread.

        Most people graduate by 22..

Then you believe taxes should not support marriage at all, because that is a life choice? Why single out gay marriage in particular?

I've not singled out gay marriage. Personally, I'd rather the state didn't have a hand in it at all. But then people without churches would whine about how they were 'barred from marriage'. Oh well.

Err, you've clearly singled out gay marriage, since a giant number of your posts are about how gay marriage shouldn't be legal, and virtually none of your posts are about how the government shouldn't endorse marriages. You also have a fair number of posts about how the government has a vested interest in supporting straight marriages, suggesting that money should go toward promoting it. So what do you actually believe?

I'll accept your claim you're not a troll, I'm fairly sure that you're sincere in your beliefs, that's why I continued to argue my point for so long. Only problem is that you so often derail the conversation and ignore the actual questions being asked, so we hardly get anywhere.

With that in mind, I guess the best question I can ask - and possibly the only question left to ask - is whether you'd ever deliberately step around tough questions where you can't deliver a solid, rational and well-founded answer matching your church's official position?

(Edit: I might add this is not a troll either - this quoted part only supports my slight suspicion this assumption above turns out being just right - but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.)

Yes, yes you have, you ****ing liar.

You only started mentioning this after I brought it up as my belief.

That's ****ing bull**** and everyone arguing for equal rights knows it. Only ****heads that believe the tripe that groups like NOM and Focus on the Family pull out of their ass would think this.

                  • Hmm is there a church teaching that says that gays suck an monogomous relationships, or is that Ben's own brand of stupidity?

It's exactly what ming just said in response to that argument. Do you even read the threads?

First off, either/or questions can sometimes fall into false dichotomy. Just because I answer something other then the choices you've left me doesn't mean I'm evading the question, I'm opening up other possibilities which you've not considered.

Secondly, what you consider 'solid, rational and well-founded' will likely differ. I'll do my best to explain the position to you, but you might still find it unsatisfactory.

You think I'm smart enough to come up with that on my own? It's quite common among evangelicals and Catholics who believe in church tradition. Honestly, I'm surprised you'd ask that question, have you really not met many evangelicals rah?

Most people don't start threads, titled, "should government fund marriages?" Gay marriage is like the pet belief of Polytubbies, so it's no surprise that I'd post more on gay marriage.

You also have a fair number of posts about how the government has a vested interest in supporting straight marriages, suggesting that money should go toward promoting it. So what do you actually believe?
You've got my argument correct. I said, "government has a vested interest in supporting marriage between a man and a woman." I also argue that the government doing so is neither discriminatory nor unconstititional.

That's not to say that I agree with government involvement, only with the phrase, "government has a vested interest".

That might be the case, but you sure as hell never mentioned it in these threads until I did.

And that's a laughable remark when it comes from you, since you seem intent on deliberately misreading everyone else's posts.

                              • I wouldn't be suprised if you heard that from another bigot, but please feel free to find official church doctrine that states that. And yes, I've met a lot of bigots. Which is why I don't take my religion that seriously anymore. They hypocrisy of gods love twisted by their hatred of gays was a bit much for me. That and I always find it humorous that they hate gays, while way too many of their clergy is diddling little boys. The hypocrisy knows no end. You represent everything that I hate about organized relgion. You should be proud.
