Why have a convocation at all?

Not that I really care about this choice either way.

I might have been wrong. The next four years may be fun to watch after all.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

Rev. Rick Warren is more than a one-trick pony: He has made anti-Semitic, anti-Catholic, anti-non-Evangelical Christian and anti-gay comments (and was one of the main players in the push for Prop 8), he trash-talked Obama after that Saddleback Faith Forum charade, he's anti-choice and doesn't want women in faith leadership positions.
I can't help but laugh at the folks here blasting the big O for associating with Warren, when the rest of us normal folks are blasting him for associating with Obama.

Considering how the vote went, I think I'd have to beg to differ on the "normal folk" nominclature as being applied there

Prop 8 had more proportionate supporters in CA then Obama had as a proportionate across the nation.

So I daresay Mr. Warren is just slightly more popular, given that it's CA of all places.

...in the USA at least, Liberation Theology is not in the mainstream. Except on college campuses, where it gives all the socialists from devout families giant boners. But they're not mainstream within the Evangelical community, that's for sure. LT is one of their bogeymen, and invoked less frequently than big-league antichrists such as Planned Parenthood and the ACLU only because it has fewer adherents here and isn't as organized.

Now that Ozzy mentions it, DRose, Phelps is indeed beyond the pale even among the Religious Right. Falwell himself called the man a "first-class nut," IIRC. Rick Warren, from what I know of him, is some smarmy seminar-holding megachurch weenie who has never once cheered at news of fatalities in Iraq; nor does he keep track of the number of days that Shephard kid has supposedly been in hell.

If over 50% of the voters in the national election aren't "normal folk", you must be using a definition of 'normal' which doesn't exist .

Normal people seem to like Rick Warren more then they like McCain.

                          What are Warren's approval ratings?

The fact that you think you have authority on declaring what is normal and what is not normal, is funny.

                              It's simple logic.

                              1. IF normal = the majority AND

                              2. Supporters of Rick Warren = supporters of Prop 8 AND

                              3. Prop 8 received 53 percent support in California AND

                              4. McCain received 37 percent support in California

                              All else being equal,

                              THEN

Normal people are more likely to support Warren then McCain.

Your #2 is wrong. You can't show that support for Prop 8 equal support for Rick Warren. Rick Warren has very particular religious beliefs. Opposition to gay marriage is a distresingly common belief amongst members of many religious groups. Mormons, Conservative Catholics, Orthodox Jews, Muslims, members of a variety of Evangelical churches all would support a ban on same sex marriage. You have no evidence to claim that any such groups, member of religious sects clearly not part of Rick Warren's, would support him specifically.
