Obama should publicly take Communion (or whatever his church calls it.)

Obama is going down a trail previously blazed by Douglas Wilder, the first black person in the US elected governor. Mr Wilder was (is) a 'high yellow', a black person so light skinned that under many circumstances he passes as white. He won Virginia by less than 1/2 percent of the votes. Of course he swept the black community, which accounted for 1/4 of the votes cast in that election, but he also won over 1/3 of the votes cast by whites. Exit polls revealed that about 1/2 of the whites who voted for him did not know he was black.

Thinking about that, in a way Obama ia widening the trail considerably. By now I doubt there are very many white voters who don't know he's black, and to win this election, even if he sweeps the black vote he's going to have to come at least very close to winning the majority of non-black votes.

Actually the United Church of Christ as a whole certainly does not preach 'black liberation theology', it's just Rev. Wright. The United Church of Christ is the descendant of the church founded by the Puritans in 1621.

Converts have a higher standard right or wrong. In many folks' eyes I'll never be a true Catholic not having been born in the church, which means I have to prove myself faithful to Catholicism by attending a church that upholds the teachings of the church well. Obama hasn't done this, and would instead have us believe that he's disowned the Reverend who baptised his children and married him and his wife.

Roman Catholics who believe that you have to be born Roman Catholic to be a real Roman Catholic have ethnicity confused with religion. Obviously their beliefs run contrary to their church's and they can be ignored. As I said above 'black liberation theology' is not a key principle of the United Church of Christ. I thinkl I can say with confidence that the majority of UC of C members are white. Barak Obama seperating himself from Rev. Wright does not constitute a renunciation of the UC of C or its teachings.

He didn't disown the Rev. until the Rev. continued to use the limelight from his candidacy to further his own ambitions (and hurt Obama's).

Rev. Wright really flamed out in that press interview which had a friendly live audience, he seemed to forget it was the press he was talking to and not his congregation and got well.. preachy.

At that point it became possible for Obama to distance himself without offending his black supporters because it was obvious to all blacks that Wright had gone over the line and embarrassed and shamed the black community as a whole. And that has always been the ultimate taboo among the black political establishment and populous.

It took him 20 years of listening to him to disown him? Either Obama is not too bright, or he joined to further his political ambitions. This is why he dumped him as soon as he became more of a hindrance to his ambitions, then a help.

"church" in the small sense, not the large sense. I certainly didn't mean to imply that the United Church of Christ is all like Rev. Wright. That is one of the reasons that makes me even more suspicious as to why Obama stayed there. Rev. Wright is nowhere near to the teachings of Christ, so why didn't Obama leave, and why did he choose to join that church in the first place?

You have to remember that most Catholics are baptised Catholic, whereas I am not a baptised Catholic, but rather a baptised Anglican.

Obama betrays someone for politics, supposedly. He claims he never shared Wright's views in the first place. But of course the good reverend is credible source of information. Guy lives on a mansion. Sounds like a genuine full time preacher of the faith to me.

Anyway, suppose you reject Obama's version. Then supposedly Obama either (a) secretly believes in what Wright's saying or (b) betrayed Wright and his ideals for politics and power.

You contend (b), I suppose. How in God's name does a power-play count as being 'subservient' to white people? How in God's name can anyone aiming to become President of the USA possibly be 'subservient' in any sense of the word other than the most airy-fairy empty "he's giving in to corporate america which is white america so he's an UNCLE TOM111oneoneone" sense?
