I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

You really think so? I dunno, maybe it's the plasticine face of Palin's that bothers me. Even if she hasn't had any plastic surgery, the sunbed tanning makes her look... fake.
She's from Alaska... sunbed tanning is necessary if you don't want to look like a vampire .

Sarah Palin is an embarrassment to intelligent women. Having her on the Republican ticket when we know she is only there because she is a woman is one of the boldest, sexist moves made by the GOP in recent memory.
Also, there is absolutely nothing about her that screams sex appeal! It annoys me when men call her sexy. She is a middle-aged mother with an outdated hairdo & wardrobe! She was probably winking because one of her fake eyelashes was caught in her eye.
You are overly harsh. I know many women who love the choice because of Palin's story. It might not seem like much to you, but there are a lot of women in middle America who are deeply dissaffected from the urban establishment view of womanhood.

Do you honestly think they'd be worth looking at after the ravages of time and multiple childbirths?
Well, when you talk about worth, it implies a value judgment. So, assuming a "look" is considered five or ten seconds, or however many, the question is, "are those five or ten or however many seconds of my time best spent looking at famous MILF boobies?" Would those seconds otherwise be spent looking at boobies of a superior quality, or at a non-booby object you would prefer such as a really awesome movie stunt? When you think about it, it's a very subjective question. It's all about what you value most, not just in boobies but in entertainment in general.

...I'm constantly amazed how much brainpower is used by straight men to justify attempts to stare at sacs of fatty tissue attached to the torso.
The problem I see with the Palin choice is that it's just plain greedy. McCain hopes to both motivate the Bush base (religious right) to get to the polls AND at the same time appeal to bummed out female Hillary supporters (left-leaning pro-choicers).
That requires quite the little balancing act, both on the issues in general and among women, all while taking the spotlight decidely OFF the actual candidate (who, by all accounts and to no one's surprise, is quite the misogynist). You can't compartmentalize your communication to that extent.
I just don't think it can work.

I pointed out in another thread that McCain's gambit to pick up Hillary voters could have worked better had he picked an intelligent, articulate, well-known Republican woman,
Palin is both intelligent and articulate. I don't see how someone could conclude she isn't intelligent.
such as Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, or Christie Todd Whitman.
Moderate, Moderate, Moderate, Moderate, Moderate.
It's clear. Guynemer, why do you believe that conservative women are less intelligent and articulate than their liberal counterparts?
I don't see it, and I'm conservative. I know plenty of bright liberal and bright conservative women. Political views are irrelevant to the issue of intelligence.
I had postulated that the reason McCain took Palin instead was that she is staunchly anti-choice, while the other women I mentioned are pro-choice.
Which is exactly true. He needed someone who made his base excited, and established his maverick reputation. Selecting a young, woman governor from Alaska does all of the above.
What the hell was with all that winking at the camera she was doing? Was she trying to flirt with us? Is this the grand GOP strategy, pick an attractive woman to try to sex up the ticket?
Would you complaing if any of your above did the same?
Or Margaret Thatcher?
Are you suggesting that seeing Maggie Thatcher would do it for you?
