Hey, if Obama went to the floor of the Senate and spoke against the Paulson Bill, and the press covered it, would you think that would be considered campaigning too?
Obama's already come out for it. The rescue bill is currently hung up because of objections by House Republicans.
I said "if" for a reason, Zkrib... if you are going to be my running mate, you need to up on these things

Letterman pounded McCain again last night. Giving the excuse that he had to rush to Washington, then staying in NY for another 22 hours, was not smart. Dave is clearly pissed, and appears more than willing to use his bully pulpit.
What's weird is that McCain has been on the show several times previously and it always semed to go well. In fact, McCain used Letterman's show to announce his candidacy.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
Anything this gigantic and unpopular needs bipartisan support to pass.

So what you're saying is that they do need John McCain there to work out a compromise?

Not a reason to cancel the campaign though. A night won't do anything.

They had a deal before McCain came. It fell apart right after he came. If the R's went along with it, they'd undercut their nominee. So they didn't. Country first

“I didn’t know I was going to be the referee for an internal G.O.P. ideological civil war,” Mr. Frank said, according to The A.P.Thursday, in the Roosevelt Room after the session, the Treasury secretary, Henry M. Paulson Jr., literally bent down on one knee as he pleaded with Nancy Pelosi, the House Speaker, not to “blow it up” by withdrawing her party’s support for the package over what Ms. Pelosi derided as a Republican betrayal.
“I didn’t know you were Catholic,” Ms. Pelosi said, a wry reference to Mr. Paulson’s kneeling, according to someone who observed the exchange. She went on: “It’s not me blowing this up, it’s the Republicans.”

What's weird is seeing Bush treated like a 3rd party candidate. By both parties.
It's quite amusing. The Democrat hate him because they think he's too conservative... and the Republicans (especially those in the House) dislike him because they they think he's too liberal!

I don't know, I think I like it that the Republicans voted against this bailout.
