  • Why are you guys fighting? It's clear that both Obama and Palin aren't experienced enough to be President of the United States.

Given that the US isn't a meritocracy, the only "experience" needed to be president is that you get being able to convince 51% of voters in enough states to give you 270 electoral votes that you should be President.

True enough. Luckily, American voters don't seem to care about experience or competence anymore. I expect the next 8 years to be as good for China as the last 8 were.

You should know by now that the investigation is to find out whether she fired Monegan solely because he declined to fire Wooten, not whether she "pressured" Monegan to fire Wooten in the first place (which a Governor is legally able to do anyway, except perhaps insofar as it might suggest breach of a police union contract). You could unequivocally prove the latter (which that tape doesn't even do given that it's through a proxy who may or may not have acted on his own initiative) without necessarily proving the former. Ergo, this can and will be spun into a non-story by the end of the week, unfortunately.
            Unbelievable!

            • If mixed experience in government service and knowledge of relevant and pressing issues were the only things people actually looked at for who should be president, of all the people running for the mayor party candidacies this election cyle this man:

              Would be President.

              no one else beats his:

              14 years in Congress (legistlative)
              4 years as governor (executive)
2.5 years as Energy Secretary (Energy policy)
1 year US UN ambassador (diplomacy)

                  • I wouldn't say flames, actually... he did pretty well considering he was going up against quite a group of big names. If Obama loses and decides not to run again, and Hillary decides not to run in 2012, I wouldn't be surprised to see him spend the years from 2010-2012 setting himself up for a solid candidacy... and if Obama wins, he could spend six years (2010-2016) as secretary of state or whatnot and end up running in 2016.

Despite his great resume, he ended up a dud as a candidate. He gave a pretty good speech, though...

Fair point. I suppose this depends on how the ethics investigation proceeds. Still a potentially serious pitfall.

No. I'm saying that someone who is picked solely because she is a woman shouldn't be answering the phone in a crisis. Palin is no Hillary.

                            • I think if you assume she was picked solely because of her gender, you would be sorely mistaken. I actually like her more than most of the other possibilities; religious nuttiness aside (which she has less than several other candidates, and seems to be moderate about) she might well be the least icky politician who had a shot at it, and the ethics stuff I like a lot (withholding final judgment on that for more info on her own scandal of course).

                              • Admittedly, "least icky" is a rare and valuable quality in politicians nowadays.
