    • Palin has state experience dating back further than that, reismark, working for the administration previous to her for several years. In any event, even 2 years of gubernatorial experience is generally considered superior to senatorial experience, given that it's executive experience as opposed to just being one lawmaker.

Foreign policy would be a difference, of course, but I think McCain has that part of the ticket covered...

            • McCain fought in the Civil War though. That type of experience could really help him.

Still doesn't exceed Obama's length of service.

It's presumptuous to quantify it like that. Senatorial experience exposes you to all types of issues (especially in the foreign policy arenas) that are just as important to running the whole country than the type of issues you deal with as a governor - especially for a state as relatively minor as Alaska. In the end, Zkribbler is right; what matters the most is the decisions that you make while in power, not the length of time you're there. (And in this regard, except for this patronage fracas Palin got herself in that will soon be all over the news, both Obama and Palin have done well in the judgment areas.)

As I've said, McCain picking Palin was probably the smartest choice he could have made... but it officially makes experience a meaningless issue in this election, and that makes the Republicans look bad because that's what they've been hitting Obama on for so long.

And I think Biden has both McCain & Palin covered.

Biden's going to eat Palin alive at the VP debate.

                  • Wow, I'm very happy with this pick. Very happy. I was fearful of Romney, but Palin, I think is really a nice complement to McCain. She seems like a tough broad, with a hell of a story.

Assuming McCain doesn't kick the bucket during the first year, I have no problem with her ascending just in case.

I daresay, her personal story is as compelling as Sen. Obama's.

By looking at their actions through life, whether they were in government or not.

This is why so much of McCain's life story has to do with him being a POW, which has nothing to do with "goverment experience." Last time I looked, flying a plane and being tortured doesn't give you any governing skills, yet it is a HUGE part of why a lot of people support him.

Yes, because its commonplace for people to have five kids and defeat an incumbent governor of your own party.
