  • McCain's VP is...

Tim Pawlenty. I would've preferred Tom Ridge or someone surprising like Colin Powell but still, it's Pawlenty.

According to Foxnews (http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/08...ate-on-friday/), he was in Denver but returned to Minnesota Thursday afternoon, attended his daughter's volleyball game in the evening, and said he planned to deliver his usual radio address at the state fair in the morning. So Foxnews seems to think it won't be him and is reporting...

Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a short-lister on the vice presidential selection sweeps, is expected to be in Dayton on Friday
(Dayton, Ohio being where McCain will make his pick public at noon on Friday). Foxnews seems to think it's Romney but...

You heard it hear first, it's Tim Pawlenty.

I'm betting Pawlenty's a head-fake. He's a low risk, low reward choice, which is a poor strategy for McCain at this point (particularly given the apparent success of the Dem Convention).

Dunno who it'll be. I suppose Romney's the most likely. I'm hoping Lieberman...

Pawlenty would be an excellent choice.

He's a governor and a civilian to balance out McCain who's a congressman in the military.

McCain is 5 points ahead of Obama, and this was before Obama picked Biden.

He doesn't need to reach. Pawlenty is an excellent pick.

You realize that you used the past tense and the present tense in the same sentence, right (and no, that wasn't the case a week ago, and isn't the case now)?

I should add, BTW, that his smartest pick would probably be Kay Bailey Hutchison. His problem is that she probably doesn't want to go down with the ship (she's interested in the Guv's mansion, which apparently isn't a bad spring-board to the Presidency).

Seconded. After Obama's acceptance speech on Thursday night, the GOP has to do something out of the ordinary in order to not only draw attention, but hang on to it like a vice grip.

I thought the implication was clear. Biden isn't going to help him overcome McCain's 5 point lead going into the convention, ergo, there is no need for McCain to reach.

You mean the wall-to-wall convention coverage?

I'm sorry I got bored of that at the beginning of the week, let alone by the time Obama gave his acceptance speech.

McCain had a solid lead going into the convention, and after the GOP convention, he'll retain that lead. He has no need to reach for a pick, and certainly not because of Obama's speech. I didn't see Christ coming down from heaven, so clearly it wasn't all that.

Here's to hoping that it isn't Romney.

Right, just like earlier you suggested Lieberman. I honestly don't think you have the best interests of the GOP.

If he picks a woman it would be Palin, not KBH.

Pawlenty sounds like a phonetical variation of plenty. Like puhleese and please.
