  • Btw, people sometimes die from being tasered. Do people know this? Do people still think that people should be tasered so that police don't pull a muscle?

I remembered when these started being used, and advocates justified the use of these because they would save lives, that police would be able to use these instead of guns. People feared that they would be used as punishment, and the advocates said that they would not. OMFG, police would never do that!

    • From what I can see he finished asking his questions when the police tried to drag him out. What threat did he pose at that point? Why did they need to touch him in the first place if he finished his question?

      • Kid, you don't want to bring the leathality of the taser up; nor the number of lives that it has saved. That would just make you look stupid.

This was not punishment. This was not torture. This was using a pain compliance weapon on a resistive subject. It worked, and it worked perfectly.

        • The difference between my stance and those who go for the "well technically it's OK" is that I don't see his "crime" deserving being tased.

I don't care if there's a rule that says well if you resist an arrest, you can tase the person. That's totally irrelevant to the big picture. I haven't seen anyone claim that what was done to him was _illegal_. What has been said and I agree is that it was wrong and disgusting.

Technicality argument isn't that great, when they execute some opinion criminals in what ever country, well they can do that. It doesn't mean it's the thing to do.

And there's problems even in the technical point of view. He stated his opinion and asked a question, and that was too much for public forum it seems like. Second of all, count the number of "cops". Are you seriously telling me that they needed to use the taser? If so, then the cops themselves are incompetent fat slobs, which was by the way at least my observation. No real cops in that video. They should give their badges away for being fat slobs.

          • Donegeal, no, Kid made a perfectly good argument about the danger of the taser.

Why? Because the cops weren't in danger of even the sligthest injury, the kid wasn't going to maul them. So the "it saves lives" isn't an argument. Firearms saves lives. That's no excuse to shoot someone to the leg if they aren't being a danger.

So, Kid's point is perfectly valid, why take the risk? Oh wait, because the rulebook says you can, right?

            • So the cop admits that he didn't do anything wrong and that they were just getting him out of there. The kid clearly says that he will get and walk out if they would just get off him and and let him go? So If they were just removing him from the place and didn't have to arrest him, couldn't they have just let him go? Also, even if you can admit that they had the right to tase him, don't you think 1 tase would have been enough let alone 3?

And no, by the time you have to go hands on with someone, you don't just let him go because he said he'd leave peacefully. It to late by that time. You had your chance.

                  Lame.

I knew someone would ignore the entire post and look for a verbal slip, or was that supposed to be humor?

I should have used electroshock. Tasering isn't a word and I was looking for an acceptable alternative and wasn't having any luck, so I chose the overstatement. T.A.S.E.R. is an acronym (Thomas A. Swift's Electric Rifle), although it appears to have entered the language as a noun/verb. Electrocute is too strong, but people have been known to die from having it used on them, so I chose electrocute as it is closer to being accurate.

                  Good catch though.

"a pain compliance weapon on a resistive subject" wow! that explains perfectly why it's not toture.

                    Yes, toture sometimes works. Point!

Torture doesn't always work though. Here's a guy who was tasered multiple times and still resisted. Looking at this the pigs just about caused a riot. All because the guy wouldn't show his ID. ****ing idiots! I'm sorry, but right now I'm pissed.

There are always idiots who can't figure out what's going on even when it's right there in front of their faces.

The guy was physically resisting, he was clearly warned that not complying would result in being tasered, he continued to physically resist, he was tasered. Regardless of whether you agree with the cops' actions or not, the only sane interpretation of that series of events is that he was tasered for continuing to physically resist.

Listen closley. Just before each of the 1st 3 screams, you can hear 3 times the taser is used. If you click on the MSNBC video on the related videos list, it is more obvious.
