Your perceptions are rather funny actually. In the end, I could really care less about what Yanks think about the flag, or anything else that is none of their business.
I lived in North Florida for three years, and not once did I see a black person having anything to do with the Confed battle flag. Perhaps its changed since.

Ive since lived in Virginia for 14 years, but you probably dont think of Northern Va as the south.

Ive spent time in both Carolinas, in Georgia, in New Orleans. As well as in the parts of Virginia that are definitely the South. Ive had good friends from both Carolinas, from Louisiana, Missippi, Alabama, etc. Im kinda tired of you suggesting I know nothing about the South.

why would disliking the Confed battle flag imply they are ashamed of the south?

Yeah, LOTM, but some of these people act like all vehicles in the South have Stars and Bars on them, ala Dukes of Hazzard. Give us a break. Jeez.

But in reality, they opperate under the same myth that most of the Northern population does. Only they just don't care, you see the stars and bars everywhere here and nobody makes a big deal no matter what neighborhood your in.

We are a bit more mature here than those upidy Yanks. Our laid back style.
WTF? the stars and bars? I lived in North florida for 3 years, and I dont think i saw the stars and bars once outside of a historical museum or similar place. Nobody gave a hoot about the stars and bars.

South Carolina is just weird, man.

well thats pretty silly. Ive met native white southerners who are bookish intellectuals, who are ex-hippies, who are ALL kinds of things. Stereotypes are stupid.

Oh be honest. Flying the Star and Bars just shows you have more loyalty to a past, failed, slave nation than to Old Glory and all its freedoms.

Or perhaps you fly both, or neither, or each when it is appropriate only.

Odd how some here think you have to have one loyalty to cross all categories. Very Orwellian.

I fly the SC flag alot too, because I am very proud of my state. Also a slave flag. So I fly three slave flags. Wait, I fly Big Red too, ANOTHER slave flag. Four OMFG!!!

I better not let anyone know I am a Patriots fan, would hate for the Navy to think I might be loyal to something other than America. Or the Catholic Church for that matter, excommunication would be a *****

Bureaucrats and politicians feel offended by the flag, therefore it should be banned.

I presume these things are handled on an ad hoc -basis. If some politician high enough invents some symbol to be "facist", it is and waving it is a crime.

surprisingly few really old flags there. German republican flag dates to 1848 (And was the official flag only under weimar and then after 1947), french flag to 1789, UK flag to act of union, 1707 IIUC.

Do the other countries even count?
