  • Nicolai, JM and such, I have an honest question.

How do you guys feel about the whole religion thing knowing you guys are religious, and knowing at the same time that religion does not accept gays, premarital sex and such.

Not accepting gays is racism imo. How can you apply to this? Not meaning that you agree with it or think the same, but you ARE in the same group of people.

And if you say they are wrong, then what IS christianity according to you?! But if its according to you, its not christianity...?

How many versions of christianity is there?

Is not accepting gays considered fanatical? So the vatican is fanatical? And the pope is your example?

And if you dont adhere to the whole thing, example, the vaticans view, how can you call your self christian? Isn't that like being a wanna be christian? Or a half-ass one?

    Honest question.

I don't think the people you listed in the title are Catholic. Is there a reason to keep mentioning the Vatican?

Catholicism isn't really anti gay now. It just says that sex out of marriage is bad. Gays having sex is no worse than two unmarried people have sex.

          Honest question.

Don't be so all-inclusive. The Methodist church I go to has gay involvement.

DO NOT SAY...all, none, never or always. How many times do you people need to be told? You're usually going to be wrong if you say it.

I guess one could say ALL atheists are going to burn in Hell. They may not, though. The Lord doesn't keep me as well-informed about things as I think He should.

                Uh, no.

The Church teaches that homosexuality is objectively disordered. Fornication is something else entirely. If we bought what you were saying then the Catholic church ought to permit gay marriage, since the two are comparable.

How is being gay a 'race'? The way the Catholic church sees it is that people have desires which are contrary to what the church teaches. They may be homosexuality, or they may be other desires. People have the ability to control their desires. People who have homosexual desires who are willing to abide by the teachings of the church to remain celibate are perfectly welcome, as is anyone else who is willing to follow what the church teaches.

It isn't racism at all. If you want a church that endorses what you want to do, then you can find another.

Eh, we're pretty easy-going on the gays in my church. We specifically condemn the act of gay sex, but we don't bother hounding or harassing them AFAIK. It's not that worrisome of a sin in and of itself, and we have no problem with the genuine affection that usually accompanies it.

Your charge of "racism" is a bit off, since the mainstream Xian dislike of homosexuality is based on chosen behavior, not innate nature. The innate nature of gays, due to genetics or environment or whatever, prompts them to the act, but the same is true of straight people and the urge to fornicate, or the urge of all people to lose their tempers, lie, gossip, shirk their duties, and so on. We as a species have a perverse tendency to want to do Bad Things. Some of us just have specific problems.

If you say "but sexual orientation is so strong," try going a whole day without losing your temper even a little bit over something trivial like a guy cutting you off in traffic. Or being envious of someone else's good fortune, ignoring someone else's problems, thinking a bit too long about the way someone else's anatomy jiggles, etc. ALL the demands of Christianity are unreasonable, and admittedly impossible without the help of God. Even with God, they're tricky.

How does that equal gay marriage?

I am just saying there is no sin inherent with being gay as decided by the Church. It's just acting on it, and that is no different from any other sex outside of marriage.

One of my coworkers once said to me that God hates gays. The response they got was God doesn't hate gays, but He's disappointed in them. According to some, homosexually is a sin. Regardless, man was born to sin, and no man is without sin. So why is being gay more of a sin than premaritial sex?! I don't know, and I don't think it is.

A religious institution not accepting some based on what kind of sin they indulge in vs. others is basically a power-tripping, self rightous cult. IMO. As far as I know the bible doesn't put a ranking on sins other then the Big 10, and there is nothing in there about homosexuality. Jesus, however, does put a ranking system on devine gifts, and he says that the greatest of all is "love". It appears to me that those institutions that preach that God hates gays and that all should follow the teachings of Jesus are hypocritical by nature.

True, but I believe the question was what does the Catholic church teach?

They do treat some sins as mortal and some as venial. Not necessarily the ones we would expect either.
