At least there are opportunities.
In Canada they are cutting back on teaching positions.
Now that may be. I can't speak to that. If I might make a couple of suggestions about public schools (private schools being a whole different subject):
1) Figure out what state you'd like to work in and call their Department of Education about licensure. I don't know about other states, but in Arkansas, you've got to get your teaching certificate and having your undergraduate degree won't cut it. Neither will having your Master's or PhD. You must have your teaching certificate, which usually involves either getting a Bachelor's in Education or going through a Non-Traditional Licensure program.
2) While you've got them on the phone, ask them about salaries. I don't mean ask about any one individual's salary, but there's a good chance that their salary grades are available through their state Freedom of Information Act or some such. At least then you'd have an idea of what salary range you might be in.

I'll be the first to admit that I've not even the foggiest clue what teachers in Alaska earn. And this question might come down to what we're calling "decently paid" or "a pittance." At any rate, it'll depend in part on where BK wants to teach and he can investigate that.

Done and done. That's the plan to get the licensure and then teach.

Considering how wrong that is, you'd fit right in as a teacher in Texas, Ben.

Where I live they have closed 5 schools in the last 3 years.
Are they hiring where you are?
