    However, having said all that, let me be the first to admit that I may be way, way off in my numbers. I did a quick web search and came across this:

    Edit: I also have my doubts about the accuracy of the NEA's numbers. They list $42K as the average salary for Arkansas. That seems awfully high, even for the best school districts in AR.

    • I think a teacher here in CT would start in the mid 30s, maybe even 40ish. Tack on a masters degree, and you're up in the mid 50s, maybe 60. Maybe better (depends on the district of course).

      Of course, CT cost of living is higher than Arkansas. Though some areas are more reasonable than others.

        • No, I mean once you have the job if you get your masters you get an automatic, significant raise (~$10k several years ago).

          So maybe you start in the vicinity of 40k. You get your masters (which will take a few years, during which you'll get raises). Once you've got it, you're probably closer to $60k than 50...
