  • Kid, laurentius, and Ludd,

You are all fighting for a lost cause. Society and order will ALWAYS prevail over anarchy and brutality. You are comparing the government to a bunch of Nazis. you have stereotyped EVERYTHING in this whole conversation and twisted words to suit your needs. you are all being Brainwashed by some God-knows higher authority. and in the end, sadly and in bursts of flames... you will FAIL.

    Welcome to REAL LIFE!

The state cannot allow anyone to use violence whenever they think it will help give PR to a cause. Not even if nice people think its a good cause.
I'm just arguing that you have to take to the streets sometimes and you have to break the law to change society, you can't just do it in the court. I don't agree in the violence, but I do agree with the civil disobedience. And sure the police must enforce the law that's all part of civil disobedience.

The difference between democracy and a dictatorship is the difference between being a slave and working in the field, or being a slave and working in the master's house, where you can get more privileges. Sure, given the choice, it's nicer to be in the masters house, but you're still a slave, and it doesn't do **** for all the people in the fields generating the wealth that you and your master enjoy.
I may be that...still just a slave, but if I apply myself hard, I can one day become the master, and perhaps even make life better for the other "slaves"

Who much does it hurt us to have a place like Ungdomshuset? What are the real costs? I say it is very very profitable at the end for a city to have a place like that.

they can be unprofitable aritsts, hippoies, wahtever. They just dont have a right thereby to squat on someone elses property. (BTW, dont include handicapped, there are loads of handicapped people who work pay rent, etc -we have plenty of handicapped people here who lobby (with considerable success) for access to public facilities and to be able to work and support themselves like anyone else.)

Would it make sense for the state to subsidize them to make Copenhagen more interesting? Maybe. City of Baltimore did something like that for artists at one point. But if the council democratically and lawfully CHOOSE not to, theres no right to use violence to force them to. If you can use violence to overturn any democratic decision you happen not to like, just cause you think subsidies for group X are a neat idea, democracy is dead.

"if youve been to jail for justice, youre a friend of mine" Gotcha. But thats serious justice stuff. Segregation. Dead babies, maybe. Not a group of guys who've gotten free rent for 20 years complaining that they lost a cushy deal. And yeah, as you point out, the police are a PART of civil disobedience. You agree to go to jail for justice, to make your point. You dont call the police fascists for enforcing the law. You accept that they will do so.

from what I can gather here, the protesters have only served to get the 5 million Danes to be more sympathetic to their representatives, and less sympathetic to the rioters.

Are you suggesting that Denmark is no more a democracy than the USSR in 1991 was (BTW, in Hungary in 1956 the Hungarian govt was overthrown by the outside forces of the Warsaw Pact)

was it ok to break law in the USSR. Or in the Thrid Reich? To be a dissident. And why isnt it ok anymore.

This is serious to us. It's not just about this house. This is to be allowed to be different and allowed to be poor.
