Correct, those people are precisely the types of morons who voted Bush into power - TWICE!

I think that some of this is coming from the Hillary camp.
Thats an awfull big risk to take if it was found out. And this early, he only just kinda-declared (exploritory commities seem to now qualify as officialy declaring your candidacy). Isn't the logical step to see if the Media turns on him first before risking something that could alienate most of the democrates and the middle.

sacrifices of animals are not followed, because (per Deuteronomy) its not lawful to make such sacrifices anywhere but the Temple, on the Temple Mount, in Jerusalem. Last time I looked that place was occupied by the Mosque of Omar, and the Dome of the Rock, and it would start a world war to take those down. Even most Orthodox Jews dont want a world war, and most think the reconstruction of the Temple can only be done by Moshiach, who has not yet come, so we dont sacrificice animals.

Orthodox and Conservative Judaism DO however call for the observance of the rest of the ritual law, and most O jews actually do observe it, as do a few C Jews, and many more C jews observe some and aspire to keep more.

Also though we dont kill animals,we continue to honor the traditions of sacrifice. Our morning, afternoon and evening services take the same names as the morning, afternoon and evening sacrifices, we add an additional service on shabbat and holidays, in honor of the additional sacrifice on those days, we continue to read the torah portions relating to sacrifice to commemorate those days. Orthodox Jews continue to pray for the reinstatement of sacrifices.

                    1. Arabs came from Ishmael. Not all muslims are arabs

                    2. Actually, AFAIK, the notion of Arabs as descendants of Ishmael is an Islamic one. Its certainly not stated as such in the Hebrew bible - Im not sure what later commentaries say.

                    3. Ishmael was the son of Abrahams concubine. That did NOT make him illegitimate under Jewish law. That whole part of the bible is complex and troubling - there is extensive rabbinic commentary, which you would do well to read if you are interested.

I demand, I DEMAND, that to be completely fair, he spend time at a Jewish school. Then we Jews get to fight over which one he goes to ("Obama cant go to THAT heretical school, they let the girls read Torah there!!!")

OTOH most Reconstructionist Jews seem to be vegetarians.

That's almost enough to convince me that Israel should get the Temple Mount (as long as they promise to rebuild the Temple)

I'm assuming that by "reconstructionist" you mean those who wish to rebuild the Temple (as in, soon). Why would they tend to be vegetarians?

no,no, no. The guys who want to rebuild the Temple soon, are "Third Temple" guys - He beit ha mikdash Hashlishi, whatever. I dont know the names of their specific org - they are pretty out there, and whatever some here may think, im a modernist.

Reconstructionist Judaism is a group that wants to "reconstruct" Judaism, making it a "modern" ideology, that believes in a "natural" not supernatural God, that Jewish laws should be seen as folk customs to be changed by the folk when they conflict with modern liberal, democratic, principles, etc, etc. It used to appeal mainly to intellectual types, who like its Deweyan philosophy. At some point it also began to draw more hippy types, and thats when it became heavily vegetarian. No connection to the Temple, except free association on seeing Brachys post.
