    It's your opinion that the mother is a hopeless psycho that has no right to be raising a child. Ok

    It's mine that maybe the mother was trying something out of the ordinary since the more modern traditional methods (the new american wussie standards) didn't work. I have no problem of using the police to try to scare a kid a bit. If it saves a problem done the road, it's effort well spent. OK

        Who do I go with this one? Asher or rah?

        Asher has a point in that they are bad parents. The kid should have never gotten to this point. But at this point, I think it's too late. You can't wait till the kid is like 10 or 11 (not sure of his exact age) and then start disciplining him. He should have been disciplined all along. The parents are making the police be the bad guys, because they can't do it themselves.

        Nevertheless the fact that the kid swung at an officer is not a good sign. I'm suspecting this won't be this kid's last brush with the law. I know I'm an optimist. But I suspect this kid will never become a productive member of society. I expect him to be in prison by the time he's 23.

                When a kid is diagnosed with ADHD at age 11 and the medication "doesn't work", what's the first thing that comes t your mind?

                To me, it tells me he didn't have ADHD and his parents clearly sucked.

                    With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

                      Because lots of people here openly state they have no qualms with this on the basis that it's a "bad kid". If I got sent to jail every time I looked for my christmas presents in California I'd be spending life in prison.

                        A. He didnt have it
                        B. He didnt get the right meds

                        Response to medication is NOT diagnostic for ADD, for other mental disorders, or, AFAIK, for physical disorders.

                        In any case, even if he was misdiagnosed doesnt prove poor parenting.

                                Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. IIUC today most people just say ADD, either with or withour hyperactivity. Which is still a misnomer, cause its more about problems regulating attention then about complete lack of attention.
