  • BCS is truly fried.

    • So what's the deal with Navy players taking steroids?

Is Johnson done because of this (it would be a shame)?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

      • The only thing they publish on Navy is scandals. I really doubt that the coach was complicit in roids use or that such is common.

        • Navy players were doping? Man... if they are doping, who isn't?

              Smell that BC chokejob!

This makes it official: Whoever wins the Wake/Maryland game will face Georgia Tech in the ACC title game.

              • Wow. Wake, Maryland, and GT, heading the ACC. I don't think that was predicted, and it's almost assured that those teams will lose in the ACC BCS game. Make your bets now!

Anyway, Coker out at Miami, means that Schiano might bolt to from Rutgers. Good or bad? Discuss!

LSU and Arkansas is ending up being a good game, with the good LSU showing up (from my limited observation).

No. I posted it earlier but here it is in a nutshell. 11 conference champions and 5 at large for a 16 team tourny.

Shorten the regular season from 12 to 11 games (not 9). Play the 16 team to 8 team round in place of that 12th regular season game.

Play the 8 team to 4 team round the next week. That would be the equivalent of the normal bowl games these teams all play anyways.

So the only "extra games" would be the final four. Thats 3 extra games. It could still easily be finished by Jan1 if thats important. And you could use the current bowl structure to play the games.

Hmmm, I wonder how the bowls would feel about there only being one game on NYD (or two, if NC game is a week later).

                      • I don't even like the BCS. I really don't want a playoff. I like the interesting issues that arrive from the present system. I also like a lot of games that (in a playoff system) would seem to mean less or be consolation games. I think teams get a real charge out of playing for the bowls now (for example #9 versus #8 in the Rose Bowl or whatever). With a playoff system, all that matters is being number one.

I think this puts Houston Nutt back in the "hot seat", and I wish it weren't so, because it was after all a ten-win season. But Mitch didn't come in at all after Casey Dick had a pathetic performance, and even though we put up 26 points and 297 rushing yards on the best defense in the country, still a loss. This game was seen by a lot of people who didn't usually watch Razorbacks games, and they're all going to see the obvious: Nutt could not put Mitch Mustain in. Even over Casey Dick, 3 of 17 for 29 yards.

                            ...

                            • There's still the SEC championship, Mitch - you had it locked up regardless of what happened today. Just beat Florida next week and you've got yourselves a Sugar Bowl bid, which is probably all you were going to get in the end anyway. (I think Michigan gets the rematch if USC doesn't win out... I hope, I hope!)

And after Dick's performance today, I would not be surprised to see Mustain next week.
