  • It'd be better than the crap we have now .

Though then it'd be interesting to see which conference ND goes for. I'm thinking only the Big 10 or Big East would have a decent chance (Big 10 for location and Michigan being a conference game and the Big East because that is where their basketball team is and the BE has floated some very, very accomodating schedules ND's way).

    • You could imagine anything if you suspend reality by at least two degrees, like you are doing.

      It's just mental masturbation.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

        • I think things are locking into place very well this year, even though it looks like ND could be odd man out.

          • Not if you limit it to conference champs and add 1 at large team.

It'd be a great day for college football when a three-loss team like Nebraska wins the national title. Could be even worse. What was Florida State's record when they won the ACC last year? 8-4?

              • How would that keep three-loss teams like Nebraska out? They're in the top-25. I think Florida State was in the top-25 after they won the ACC championship game last year, as well.

                  • Hey, if you want a true national champ (not you personally), then that's the best way to do it. If a 3 loss Nebraska wins, then so be it.

Personally, I prefer the exciting, sudden-death atmosphere that college football enjoys every single week of the season right now...
I agree largely with this, which is why my ideal playoff scenario would have only conference champs and independants who had at most 1 loss. In any given year, that probably wouldn't be more than six teams (likely three or four this year).

I like your idea better than most playoff proposals I see, but I don't think it would ever be workable simply because there would be no consistency in the number of games that would make up this kind of tournament from year to year. How are they going to sell the all-important TV rights and divvy up the games amongst competing bowls if you don't know how many teams will qualify for the tournament in a given year until the first week of December?

                            • BIG GAME TIME

Brady Quinn started it off by leading a chant of "beat SC" after the Army game. Most fans stuck around after the game, so it became something of a pep rally. On Sunday, Charlie Weis basically said that the team has unknowingly been preparing for the USC game for weeks.

Pete Carroll is trying to pump up his guys by attributing Desmond Reed's injury in last year's game to the tall grass. Of course, this is a ridiculous claim, but I think it was a smart move by PC.

I see what you are saying. In the real world, it would never work. It's just too reasonable. But it is nice to think about, isn't it?
