Well it is entertaining. But maybe I should have commented on the fact that Whaleboy seems like he really wants to be an atheist missionary and not the good kind either that build hospitals, schools, etc. and try to make peoples lives better but the annoying kind that hand out Chick tracts to me in the check out lane.

      • There is more to the human experience than science can explain.

Hard-core atheists bog themselves down in intellectual arguments against God because it makes them feel superior. The evidence of this is all thoughout this thread. Same goes for hard-core religous types.

No. It would be disrespectfull, especially to your parents, or other older family members. If they ask for your opinion give it to them, and then suggest the book. Otherwise keep your opinion to yourself. It will be better for you and you will have a better relationship with your family members.

I have family members who are real pains in the ass always trying to convince other people in the family to believe like they do. Trust me, don't do it. They will resent you for it.

              • Let me ask something about the possibility of science as relates to religion.
Adam and Even were first humans created. What about before? Might not that be the "evolution" ?
I've never spoken with a religious leader about this, so I'm posing the question here. Why, I have no idea.

                • Sloww: I've heard that angle before. I proposed it myself to some bible-thumpers as a halfway point before I realized I don't care about the exact mechanics of this stuff. But the odds are that there's a school of religious thought that follows those lines.

I think the Bible even has evidence that Adam and Eve were not the first, what with Cain going to the 'Land of Nod' to find himself a wife.

My opinion? I reckon Adam and Eve were special beings sent by God to aid us in our evolution.

Science doesn't relate to religion anymore. The Church decided that it shouldn't after certain scientific discoveries made the Bible look wrong scientifically speaking.

                            Let's play with this a bit ...

There's no evidence wether there's any gods, so there's a 50% chance there are non, and a 50% chance there is one or more of 'em.

We don't have any evidence to tell if there's no god, one god, or many gods, so let's split it 1/3 - 1/3 - 1/3. Suddenly the chance of atheism dropped!

But we can do better than that; there can be no gods, one, god, two gods, three gods, or more - we've got no evidence, so they're all equally likely.

Repeat ad infinitum, and the probability of atheism converges to zero! Huzzah!
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

                            • I started a thread about atheists vs. agnostics long ago and pointed out that at least atheists had the FAITH to believe as they do, while angostics have no balls, afraid to commit either way.

                              Can't hedge your bet. Sorry.

Assuming for the sake of the argument that atheists do have faith, why is that a good thing? Why is believing in stuff you don't have valid reasons to believe in a virtue?
