  • This did end up being a rather successful troll, didn't it?

Given it's transparency, I figure it must've been the timing. Just enough time had passed since the OTF's last religion v. atheism thread.

      Look at Christianities claims.

If it succeeds in it's claims, doesn't that suggest truth?

I am sure Lorizael could give you a thousand ways to test an idea.

        • No.

Auto-suggestion, adaptation to an idea, that's what it proves. It does not prove its true.

I am very very intellectually curious, I just dont beleive in something that cant be proven. And god cannot be proven.

As I have said, I don't think there is any proof or disproof of God. And I haven't changed my position in the last 10 posts.

                You aren't understanding me.

Obligation is probably the wrong word for me. I have very nihilistic tendencies, and in the end, if I were to live the rest of my life as a wandering beggar or sociopathic serial killer, it would be no more or less moral than what I am currently doing from my perspective.

I am attempting to figure out the truth to see if there are any ultimate moral standards by which I should live my life, or by which the universe should operate. I won't claim that the actions I undertake to effect this goal are 'good' or 'right'; they're just the only things I can think of that might, in the long run, allow me to do something meaningful.

(Whenever Spec enters a religious thread, he just rants uselessly about how God doesn't exist and it's stupid to think so. Just pretend he's not on our side.)

                          I agree. Red letter day.

As for it being a missionary to convert to atheism I think the Jesuit colleges actually teach half their alternative religion course with an aim to discredit the existance of God and half of their religion course to endorse the existance of God. The final term paper taking either position and defending appropriately.

Seems if the catholics are willing to enter into that level of debate expecting that the logical arguments will only strengthen one's faith how dangerous can the likes of a Whaleboy book recommendation be?
