Symbols mean different things to different people. I don't think it's fair to judge a person based solely on your own interpretation of a symbol. Doing so amounts to some sort of, I dunno, prejudice.

If you guys who are so fervently against flying the Confederate flag, have never sat down and gotten to know someone who flys the flag, then I invite you to kindly shut up. You're all saying some pretty hateful things based on your assumptions...

Not really i guess it hasnt ocured to anyone that the flag might just be cool looking and have no meaning to said person flying it right!! The racism lies in the person tryng to dechpher why the flag is being flown. I find that people see it easier to claim racism or some sorts to ease thier minds of past sins that really didnt incude them personnaly.

On my recent trip to Michigan, driving through the countryside to the manufacturer's site, I saw a house.
Outside, flying in the breeze, was a Confederate flag.
Guess what? I saw no charred wreckage of burning. No violence. No slaves in the field. Just a flag, that overall means nothing.

It means the most to ignorant people who think their rights count more than anyone elses.
I have another bet to make. Those who tear up and wail in remorse at the sight of a Confederate flag, will say it's fine to burn the American flag.

Correct, it is also possible that people flying the Confederate flag are idiots who are completely ignorant of its historical significance.

It really is quite interesting - Americans who say they are patriotic, stand up for liberty, etc etc etc and then run off and wrap themselves in the Confederate flag, the flag of a nation that was essentially the antithesis of this.

Have we already forgotten the hell that the Confederate States sought to impose upon blacks (and partially suceeded, as its racist culture spread)? The lynchings, bombings, etc....It isn't exactly as if the CSA was a paragon of virtue, except perhaps in seeking greater autonomy ("states rights") to impose their hate on populations they consider subhuman.

I just don't see how anyone could support such a regieme. States rights is one thing, but the CSA is quite another.
