Historically Catholics have been far more likely to be Democrats. I think its balancing out now. Dems may still have a slight edge, but the last two elections particularly have shifted Catholics to the Republican column.

There are quite a lot of people whose views match up with yours Lancer. Its a shame we don't have an electoral system to accomodate more views, even though our views don't really match, it'd be good for more options.

Folks like Lancer are precisely why Bush won twice.

Union types and factory workers and other blue collar folks who had traditional voted Democrat because of economic issues finally felt the party was socially out of step with their socially conservative values (and the Republicans made a big effort to cater to those social values) and switched to Republican. They can always switch back.

          Interesting.

Actually, from what I believe, Catholics tend to support abortion more than Protanstants do here in America.

Depends on what protestant demonination you are talking about. They probably are more pro-choice than Southern Baptists, but less so than Episcopalians.

THere is a wide range of Protestants out there (and Catholics).

Why is everyone missing the obvious? He's an authoritarian. He wants the government to tell him and everyone else exactly what they can and can't do.

I'm still wondering about his accusations that the GOP is moving away from pro-life. How, when and why exactly is that happening?

I'm thinking Lancer is truely pro-life, which means anti-death penalty as well. That, and Bush hasn't exactly done much to ban abortion. He knows its a great political issue.

Lancer: You can be pro-life and pro-choice at the same time. You can support the right to choose and be opposed to the actual event (like, say, "I think it should be an option but I would do everything in my power to convince otherwise). Also, how do you feel about abortions when rape, incest, and the life of the mother are considered?

These are important, because this is how my mother, a life-long democrat, views abortion.

how can you support the right for others to kill people?

if you are comparing the lives of two people, that is a sucky choice to make, but it does make sense to make it (and make it in favor of the one who has been existing longer)

Interesting thread here lancer. Surprised I missed it.

Not sure, it depends on how you define whether someone is protestant or Catholic. If you go by declaration, in allowing people to say, I am Catholic, you get very different results then if you look at things like attendance to mass, etc.

It seems rather simple to me. If you are dealing with the life of another person, then things like incest and rape shouldn't make a difference. How a person is conceived has no bearing on who they are.

I don't see how supporting abortion in the exceptions of rape and incest only is a 'prolife' stance, since most folks who say this are not suggesting that all other abortions ought to be banned.

I'm pro life. I thought that made me a repug, but I'm not so sure anymore. I'm getting ready for some revenge voting. Hillary? uke: It would be tough, but I gotta teach the 'right' a lesson on how to lose their base.
There are prolife democrats, but they are a long-suffering group without much support from their party.
